Default rev limiter bounce

I have been driving manual cars for about 5 years now and I have never accelerated in gear to the point where it hit the rev limiter.

Yesterday, I'm driving on a beautiful day in southeastern WI, when I am stuck on a long stretch of 55mph 2 lane country highway behind a guy going 40-35mph.

I see an opening and shift down to second and full throttle around. Because the air is so cool and dense, I went from 40 to 75 before I was passed. I had both hands on the wheel and I wasn't expecting "SHIFT" to display on the HUD so quickly. When I was turning back into my lane the engine was pulsing quickly as it hit the rev limiter. Probably did it 15 times before I shifted to third. I sounded like a 16 year old rice boy at a stoplight

Help me put my mind at ease. I have really been beating myself up over this. I think that I probably bent a pushrod and anytime now the engine is going to eat itself.

The thing that makes me feel better is I had been driving for 45 mins and everything was up to temp.

How fragile is this engine?

I've seen people bounce the rev limiter like that at AutoX all the time...

Unless you're hearing something weird from the engine, like an obnoxious ticking that wasn't there before... i wouldn't fret it..

However, next time - don't forget to grab 3rd, and really blow by the guy!

Like said above, engines have rev limiters for a reason. It prevented you from causing the damage.

Hi davesbedroom -

Hitting the rev limiter is like farting.

It's not something you try to do, and you regret doing it once it happens, but no harm comes from it....

best regards -

Thanks Guys

I am going to use the farting analogy when I explain it to my wife.
