You need to call the company and list what you have, you need photos and original receipts for everything, and they must be receipts from a shop or distributor, not a handwritten receipt from your buddy you bought the part from. The company will list your mods however remember they depreciate them at a much more significant rate than the car depreciates. They will cover custom paint as well. If you have no receipts talk to your company about getting an official appraisal of the cars value and contents. They will not take your word for it, thank many years of a-holes screwing insurance companies for parts they never had or stole off their own cars for that.
Before anyone says thats not fair, quite often you will find "used" parts on here for 50% or less of their retail price, and thats the same thing the insurance company does. When it comes to insurance the same rules apply to modding a car, you will NEVER get the money out that you put into it, but at least you will get something.
If your car is a really heavily modified custom painted, etc vehicle, I recommend a specialty insurance policy, regular private passenger auto insurance will never ever cover you properly.
Finally, when it comes to listing mods the stuff has to be significant (supercharger kit, complete new engine, etc), if you call up and say you put a camshaft and air intake in, they are going to tell you to go pound sand. While changing the cam and valvetrain isn't by any means easy unless you had them forged with the hand of god its maybe $500 in parts and replacement factory pieces are the same price or more. The parts you cover have to be far over and beyond what the car had originally. I'd say the minimum mod they would cover is an exhaust (because in our car's case an exhaust is $1000+).
As for the situation presented here, don't freak out. Wait for their offer, and just gather some documentation as to the value you expect from the car. If you didnt have your mods listed, unfortunately you are screwed, but at least you can get the true selling value of the car. CCC does a decent job (sometimes) of valuing the vehicle at what it would truly sell for, but its better at that when it comes to a more common vehicle. Sometimes though you may be surprised and they could come back with a really good value, that happened to me with my 1991 Firebird and Allstate, I ended up getting more than I had put the car up for sale for!
(PS I work for an insurance company which will remain un-named, and have quite a bit of experience in all these areas).
Thanks for the info. I'll gather the receipts and take more pics.

I told them they were too low and they told me to pound sand, the offer was fair and to take it or leave it. They said that they could buy a car like mine for 18600 (before my deduct) and listed several 98's that were priced in that range (all poor condition) and said if I found a car I wanted they would help me negotiate a lower price then what the dealer listed. I told them that was not their job, they were supposed to offer me what my car was worth.
I looked over the CCC report and found an error. They listed my milage at 84k but the mileage on my car was only 60k. I called the adjuster's supervisor and told him and asked how the hell they could be off by that much. He called me back and said the adjuster forgot the key at the office so he got my mileage off of the oil change sticker on the window. He said is looked like 84k. I told him that I just had an oil change and the sticker said 64k not 84k. I then faxed him all my maintenance records including the last oil change showing him the mileage 61k. I explained that I expected someone to be much more careful and exact because this was very important since it was my money they were delaing with. He said he was sorry and resent the information to CCC for the new value.
New offer that I accepted:
+19600 car
+1200 TTL
-1000 deductable
=19800.00
Overall I am happy with the final settlemnt but I think my adjuster was an idiot and if I would not have looked over everything closely and called the supervisor I would have gotten screwed out of a couple grand. Thanks to everyone for all the advice. It really helped me.
This forum is great. I have decided to wait 9 months or so and put together some more dough and get a very slightly used 08 model C6.
