(UPDATE! SETTLED)-Totaled my 97 need Insurance advice!
Guy cut me off yesterday and I ended up spinning out and hitting the concrete wall. Car is toast. My insurance company said they are using a company called CCC to determine the value and that no book will be used such as blue book or NADA. I have been reading all these stories about how low the CCC figures are. How can I fight their offer. My car was a 97 with 60k and was showroom condition. Everything I have found on the internet shows I should expect to get between 17 and 19k for it in my area (houston). The nada and Kelly show it should be from 16800 to 21000. Any ideas? I just want the actual value minus my deductible. I should be able to buy another car with the cash minus the 1000. Please help me out guys I know some of you have had to do this before. Thanks

See if your insurance company allows for arbitration. If they do and you don't agree with the company's offer, use that provision to see if you can get more out of the settlement.
Have you considered going to Autotrader.com and finding cars similar to yours? I might print out the cars to show what the car is worth if the insurance company comes in too low with their value. Sorry to hear about you troubles.

I had to do this and fax them to the insurance co. because they gave me a lowball offer. the best that they came to me with my 97' was about 22k and thats because i had a $10k+ receipt for a new motor I just had installed. I finally got them to pay me the damages insted ($13.5k) and I got it fixed. It was all suspension work a new fender/bumper and some paint.
so find many comparisons to send them. If they offer you a low amount, don't be afraid to tell them it's not acceptable.
You should be working with 2 insurance companies, yours and the fool who cut you off. That would mean 2 different offers to start with. You negotiate the one with your insurance company and have your attorney negotiate with his insurance company. That will give you 2 offers to choose from and you can take the best offer.
I'm surprised that you don't have any medical issues after totaling your car. Insurance companies are quick to settle when you talk about aches and pains after a wreck.

Unfortunatly for him from the sounds of the accident he's going to be at fault in that situation. He would of been better off letting the guy hit him sadly.
I've had the misfortune of a few totaled cars. Do your homework and know what your car would really market for. Have some examples to back up your value estimate. Do not be afraid to decline their first offer if it is really a "low ball". They are obligated to come to terms with you and the experience will be like buying a car in reverse!

The guy who cut me off did not stop. I have made copies of all the cars I have found on the internet and I will be sure to bring that with me along with pictures of my car. Thanks for all your advice guys. I was hoping someone else on here had some experience with Geico and CCC.
