I have a 2000 convert and I ran over a nail. I took it to the local tire shop and they said that the Goodyear Eagle GS run flat tires are not repairable. They quoted me a price on a new tire, it was $500. A little steep!!
The nail is not in the sidewall it is in the middle of the tread. Will a regular tire patch work to fix the tire or was I being scammed?
I'm sure you could patch it but they say once you patch a tire the speed rating doesn't mean anything anymore. If they're pretty new tires I would just go to wally world and get a repair kit and do it yourself. But dont take your car to the track until you replace your tire.
I had a front repaired (nail in tread portion), went to a GY store, they dismounted, patched on inside, remounted, never questioned that it shouldn't be done. That was 20,000 miles ago, not a probem since!
Local GY dealer fixed one for me. $35.00. Proper lifting of car, careful removal of tire, with no damage to sensor, patch does not leak. Have driven highway speeds (85 or so) for ten hours at a time. No problems. Be sure repair shop is RF savvy, not all are!
The speed rating is determined by a test where the tire is ran at speed for something like a hour or two. If you're just driving the car on the street it's not likely that you would be going 160 mph for that long. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about this. I don't want to get anyone killed.

If you saw my post at all about the nightmare with the bungie strap, my run flat took a puncture from of these creatures from hell. It punctured the rear tire outside area tread whipping out $2500 damage to my car in about 8 rotations. But my runflat was fixed. I went to a very high tech tire shop and they said if the puncture is in the tread on the runflat, it can be fixed. They do fix it a little different. Took the wheel off and plug it from the inside. It's holding air fine. Cost me $25.00. They did say my rating went down one. In other words, I should stay under the 160 mph rating to probably 120 mph with that tire. Just be really really glad it was just a nail that gave you a flat. There are other really bad things out there....

Discount tire repaired mine just fine ,but they informed me that they only repair the runflats once per tire so if I get a nail in the same one later on ,it needed to be replaced

I had a nail dead center in the tread area, just put a regular plug in mine never had a problem with it. You can run the tire with a 1" hole in it so I don't see the problem with using a plug. I took the tire to a local Goodyear store and they said a run flat could not be repaired wanted to sell me a new tire.
