I recently purchased my 97 C5. Last weekend I noticed lots of condensation inside all the windows so last night I started looking around. Noticed my Drivers side carpet was pretty soaked. I don't have any history on the car besides te carfax I did when I bought it. I don't see any obvious leaks or wet areas except the carpet. I was thinking of getting it on a lift this weekend but wondering if you have any recommendations? Thanks for the help.
I would stop driving the car. If the drain for the AC/Heating box is clogged, water will back up and run down the inside passenger firewall right onto your BCM. That will be one expensive fix! I had the same problem. When I cleaned the drain a lot of water came out....it was a huge puddle. No good. Trust me.
The car I'm driving is a coupe. would a coupe be a different fix than a convert?
I have the car with me at work today about 8 miles from my house. Now I'm almost scared to drive it. Guess I'll leave it in the driveway till the weekend udder draining?
Udder cleaning doesn't take long for most of them, look on the drivers side just behind and underneath the wiper fascia you'll see two of them. The other side is a little more difficult to get to. Squeeze them stuff should fall out.
Well on the convertible the side upper weatherstrip splits in half and could be an area of leakage. Also, look at where the windshield weatherstrip meets the side upper weatherstrip. There should be a fraction of an inch overlap. If there are any gaps, it won't seal up well.
Have you washed the vehicle lately? Because it just maybe the amount of water from washing that is aggravating the situation. I wouldn't be 'afraid' to drive it. Plus you might want use some towels to sop up some of the moisture out of the car. Another option is buy some of that DampRid from the grocery store. It's little granules that goes in a cup provided and it sucks all the moisture out. Put a fresh cup in over night each night until it is completely dry inside again. I used it to remove moisture from carpet in the house closet when the water heater flooded.
Here you go my brother. This link will give you all the info you need. Make sure the car is stone cold before you try to clean the drain for the AC/heater box. Otherwise you will burn the $hit out of your hand. I hate to put it into such ugly words but I want to stress that a hot motor is a bad thing when doing this.
