Just put on a set of General Exclaim UHP tires to replace my worn out Pirelli P Zero Neros.Tire Rack had good reviews on this tire. They are quiter than the Pirellis and the original Run Flats and seem to grip great. Balanced up fine and no vibration.
I got a 4 wheel alignment also to correct a slight camber problem. It's like a new car! and 1/2 the price of the GY Run Flats. Tires have a 380 treadwear and I will report back on how they do in the long term.

sounds like a hard tire to me but sounds like you may get a few more miles out of them. Not a performance tire tho.
I've got 12k on my Generals and I like them. My car is a 100% commuter vehicle so I got them for the good treadwear ratiing. They are excellent on wet roads. I have 0 complaints.
I've had my Generals since the start of summer and have absolutely no complaints! I've always been a diehard Goodyear man but I do have to say the Generals have impressed me all the way around. I get great tread wear and no complaints in the performance area. We went up to Smokey Mountains National Park a week or two and one of the days it rained the whole time we were up in the mountains and after several curvy, wet mountain roads I will definately agree it's a great wet tire too!

an 86 dollar tire ? come on man
I was a little skeptical about this tire but since it is a W speed rated tire as long as I don't exceed 186MPH on the Interstate it should do fine. I do run the Corvette Challenge Drags sometimes but at 105mph and no turns it should work there also. Wet traction is pretty important here in Florida and it also has good reviews in that area. I tested them again today on my favorite back road and they corner fine. I like the 380 treadwear and am tired of spending over $1000.00 each time I get new tires. 93,000 miles on car and I have put on 3 new sets not including the Factory Run Flat Buckboards.
CTNA although owned by a German maker has invested over $78 million at the Mt. Vernon Illionis plant that makes these tires, so I am helping to keep some money and jobs in the USA.

im tired of spending that amount too however with the tread wear being that high it usually means a harder compound and less stick when i want to take off at the drag strip
bought a set at tirerack 518.00 delivered to the door. quiet-compared to the runflats-good traction and cheap. also bought a air pump and some patches--ha ha

Yikes, again? Quit with the personal philosophy of cost = quality. The guy is pleased with the performance of his purchase, many others posting here as well. Perhaps you should look at the product description listed under Tire Rack to better understand the application. Or, is that propaganda from the manufacturer to convince folks to buy a "reasonable priced" tire? Seems it fills the bill for most all of those posting since I didn't notice that you actually have used the tire, that correct? Will it help that the sidewall states "Made in Germany" on the set fitted to my wife's car since we all know German products are very high quality? Maybe a drag radial is better suited to your needs since you mention drag strip use -- these aren't described as such.
Really exhausted by those that have a need to chastise inquiries/opinions about products that don't cost an arm and a leg. Remember, we all get parts from the CHEVY DEALER for our "world class" sports car which is a good thing. The higher quality parts, aka higher priced parts, for Ferrari and Porsche are down the street and around the corner...

W rating? It's showing a ZR rating on TireRack. Either way, I'm with you. I am DESPERATELY in need of new tires -- at the 35K point, I bought Nitto 555Rs (when I was in Florida), which were CRAPPY in the wet. It's my daily driver. Now I'm at 70K and the Nittos are done. They held up pretty well considering, but I just bought a set of Generals on TR - $498 total w/shipping... Even if they just last me the winter time, I'll be happy...

Actually my post is in response to the tread wear rating and my experience with the type of compound high tread wear tires are made of. I prefer a tire that has grip. I have had bad experience with high tread wear tires as being a "harder" tire aka the tire spins very easily.
So no, i do not love to spend money on tires, however I am stating my experience with such ratings of tires. I do not care who makes them they all get tested the same way. LOL

Just so you understand you are getting a summer tire not an all season tire.
Summer UHP tires focus on dry and wet grip, but the all-season UHPtires compromise some of that for winter grip. Some all-season variants, such as the Falken Ziex ZE-912, lean toward three-season performance; several other tires, such as the Continental ContiExtremeContact and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, offer more credible winter grip.

I just checked the front tire sidewalls on my C-5 to make sure of the Speed rating and sure enough they are marked with the W rating: 168MPH Max. The automotive industry has added W- and Y-speed ratings for Cars with high top-speed capabilities.
The Z-speed rating still appears in the tire size designation, 245/45ZR17 91W, the Z in the size signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph, and the W in the service description indicates the tire's 168 mph maximum speed. ( 91 is the weight capability). Although an M&S tire I would be careful in freezing temps and snow. Good Luck.

Keep us informed of how these tires perform and wear
Update Nov. 6-2007:Wonderful cool day here in Florida with high of 82F so the Wife and I took off the Targa and enjoyed a 150 mile drive today.First chance to really evaluate the tires and I am still in shock at just how good these tires are. They rode way better than my Goodyear RF set and also better than the Pirelli P Zero Neros. Traction was great and some spirited cornering on the back roads amazed me. Lateral grip was outstanding and response was quick. Ran 32PSI cold (after correcting a 5lb overinflation by the installer) I did watch as they hand torqued to 100 ft. lbs. per my request, but I will recheck that also with my wrench. As ol Thorogood sings: I don't trust nobody with my girl! Anyway these tires must be the best kept secret in the Corvette world and mabye I should be quiet for awhile as CTNA may raise the Price. I will keep you informed about how they do in the long term.

Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
