That's about average. You can add Water Wetter (Autozone, Advanced, Vendors here) if it will give you piece of mind, but you should get a up in front of your radiator and check for leaves and other crap that have a tendancy to collect there. You would not believe the crap that accumulates up there. (Old plastic bags, candy bar wrappers etc.)
If you change your coolant, take out your radiator (not that hard to do) and wash out all of the sand and other junk that get up in the cooling vanes. I did mine last month and got a stream of mud and tiny pebbles out of it. Looked like river bottom silt.
It also lets you wash out the AC rad too.
Whatever you do don't use a pressure washer, a thumb over the hose end works better.
Those with stock vettes...Whats your avg operating temps....
Mine stays around 212, but in stop and go climbs to around 235
what are you all seeing?
May or may not be running hot , the numbers are only a little above my C5 and depends on conditions. As has been said get underneath and check for trash BETWEEN the Radiator and A/C condenser as well as the Front part.
OGC5
That's the designed operating temp. Since my collant flush, I don't get over 210. (Texas heat can kiss my @$$)
Many guys in the tech section especially, don't car what GM said was normal and invested in HD Aluminum radiators, SPAL fans and Electric water pumps inorder to get their operating temp as low as 160.
In England its sits around 190. In Vegas in Summer it would sit around 200 to 210 and the fans would cut in (at 235) if I came to a stop for any length of time. The fans would drop it by at least 10 degrees straight away.
GA gets pretty warm, doesn't it? My temperatures in northern AZ, climbing mountains at 5,200-7,000 ft are usually under 200 degrees unless I get stuck behind slower moving traffic or using lower gears for long periods. The motor was designed for it, don't worry.
Good advice to double check the radiator though...bugs, plastic bags and road kill.
