I suggest you read the sticky at the top of the C5/Z06 forum. It has all kinds of C5 Corvette/Z06 information which may help you. Some might apply to your car, some won't. Your profile isn't filled out.

Competitive Mode
Corvette's Active Handling system has a unique feature called Competitive Mode, which allows the driver to disengage the car's traction control feature without giving up Active Handling's other benefits. Holding down the Active Handling button on the center console for 5 seconds enables Competitive Mode. This feature recognizes that, at the hands of a highly skilled driver, a bit of rear wheelspin may actually be desirable in autocross or other racing events. In previous years, it was necessary to bring the vehicle to a full stop to enable Competitive Mode. But for 2001, this requirement has been eliminated.
The Corvette's 2001 Second-Generation Active Handling system is smarter, less intrusive, and more adept at making the total driving experience precisely what Corvette owners have come to expect from their cars.

possibly it can be modified for your use by someone like Chuck cow
But i am not positive on this.. The shift light may be default at the factory and simply kick on during times that you may hit the rev limiter. While that is a shift light it may not act like "shift lights" as we know them.
If it can be modified to act like one at specific rpm setting by a tuner then please chime in and let us know?
i found this link from a member mentioning having it turned on by Chuck.
The HUD shift light has always been there. It is very hard to see and if you are counting on that light to make a shift I would install a real shift light which is much easier to see.
Installing a real shift light (Raptor Performance is a good brand) is a very easy task and anyone can do it in their garage within 2 hours.
Here is an original write-up from a vette tester
If the C5's HUD has a weakness, it is the shift light feature. At the media program at Indianapolis, after introducing the '99 Hardtop, Chief Engineer Hill discussed the HUD. He emphasized the shift light feature as a performance driving aid, similar in nature to shift lights used in road race or drag race cars. My evaluation later that day, in a performance driving situation of the type deemed by Hill as ideal for the HUD shift light, found the feature lacked visibility.
I tested the light in the default choice of HUD data by accelerating in second gear. I intended to upshift when we saw the light in my peripheral vision, however, I never saw it and the LS1 hit the rev limiter. I tried again, looking directly at the HUD as the engine neared redline. This time I saw the light, but couldn't find it until too long after it came on and the motor tagged the fuel cut-off, again. The light is so small, it seems to get lost amongst the other data. I found out later, in emailing with Stringfellow, that the HUD can be set to show the shift light without the graphic tach display and he says it stands out more when not nestled up against the tach bars, however, in my opinion; it still needs to be a contrasting color or at least made several measures brighter than the surrounding parts of the display.
Lot's of people have complained about the shift light, but I personally find it very helpful. I know where it pops up and when it does I catch the change in my field of vision, wait half a second and then shift. It comes on at 5750 rpms, but I like to wait til about 5900(just short of the limiter) to shift.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
