Default How do you read battery code?

I just got a 2001 and battery went dead. Then I switched out with a spare battery I had. How do you read the battery code on a Delco battery which has: 1CM 2277 22 75P in the top of it? Thanks for any info you can share.

The code is a string of letters numbers, but all the real information you need is in the first two characters. Usually, the code starts with a letter that corresponds with the month--'A' for January through 'L' for December (some manufacturer's codes omit 'I'; for them, 'M' indicates December). The second character of the code is a numeral that stands for the year. Thus, a code starting 'A2' indicates that the battery was shipped in January 2002; 'B2' indicates February 2002, and so on.

(Delco reverses the letter and the number; a Delco code starting with '1C' indicates the battery was shipped in March 2001.)

I still have my OEM battery and it's still going strong. Anthing over 5 years is good as far as battery life is concerned. It looks like yours was OEM as well.

The Delco in my '99 has only numbers in the serial number - 08xxxxx. It is an AC Delco Professional - 5Year. Looks new, just got the car last year.
Any ideas? Would be nice to know how old it is. Haven't had any issues, yet.

Don't know about that #, but from the ACDelco site:

How do I read the warranty date code on my battery?
The warranty date code is located on the top label of the battery. The first character is either a P or S. The next two digits determine the month, the third digit is year and the fourth digit indicates the manufacturing plant. For example, P 094N means the battery was made in September 2004 in the New Brunswick factory.
