Hello great Corvette minds! I haven't asked this before but I want to replace my shifter on my 04 Comm. What GM shifter is the best bolt-in replacement? I don't mind a little diddling around. is it a shifter for an 08 Z-06? if so what are the costs involved

Hey Bob,
I'm gonna go with the C6 Z06 myself based on the info I read in this forum. For me and my style of driving it seems to be the right fit.
Here's a link to a great write up Patches did re: the installation. Hope it helps.
Two pieces of advice if you are going to do it yourself.
1. if you have a vert, make sure that you remove your waterfall (not shown in the forum instructions because he had a coupe).
2. There is a pin that locks the shifter into the neutral position. Don’t remove the pin until your shifter is in securely and don’t forget to remove the pin before you put your dash back together. I removed mine to early and needed to unbolt it and do it again with the pin in place.
I bought the shifter from Gene Culley (supporting vendor), I think everyone will tell you that he has the best prices and customer service. He responded to my emails promptly and I had the shifter 3 days after ordering it.
I am not mechanically inclined but this install was not difficult at all.
You should just consider getting a short shifter. You won't have to fiddle with it once you get used to it. Also, there are mods to make it shift easier if you are interested.

I just checked and it looks like that group purchase has ended. bummer.
Keep watching the classified section, there are people who change their shifters out as often as some change their shorts, especially with winter modification season upon us.
The reports on the 2008 Corvettes shifter indicate that the 2008's shift smoother and more precise. Does anyone know if the 2008 shifter has been changed and is any different from the 2005 - 2007 shifters?
Gene Culley owner of GMPARTSHOUSE, a site supporting vendor, has indicated there was a change to the '08 shifter. I haven't read anything more about it. You might inquire with him. He's on the main menu page, in the column to the left...
