I hear ya Sean. It looks like they changed the design just a tad from mine to yours. That could be part of the original fitment issue you had. At least you got em in right.

I still surprise myself when listening to these subs. I'll listen to a new song and whether its rap or rock, they have no trouble keeping up with lows or fast drum beats.

These subs do look really good.

I think I'll go with those. Now i just have to decide on a head unit. The pop out would be the easiest but it blocks the mid dash vent...

maybe i could swap the AC controls and the head unit? Does any one know how hard it is to relocate the AC controls?

Well do you have to have the large screen? Whats your goal? JVC makes a nice single din nav unit, looks just like the HU I have (or really close anyway).

You can drill holes into your screen to let the vent through

but seriously. relocating the a/c controls is doable. You have to mod the dash and all this other fun stuff. It very time consuming especially if you've never done it before. Don't let it deter you though. You can get a bezel to practice with for 75-80 bucks and there are a few write-ups about the double-din mod. It definitely makes a nice winter project.

I've got an alpine 205 DVD in the dash with two Alpine Amps (one in each well) along with a 12" Type X Alpine sub in the center well. The thing will pound so hard you'd think you were being punched in the back of the head.

I'm about to have the entire system redone with custom painted fiberglass to match the car. It'll be sweet w/(2) 12" X's and (2) 1000 watt digital PDX amps.

Default Looking to upgrade

So currently I have a 98 C5 with the factory Blose. It is alright, but I really want to change things up a bit. I have not cracked open the door panels etc, but are there really 8inch subs in the doors? If so any good recos for just swapping out a head unit, adding an amp, and replacing the existing speakers size for size with quality speakers? I have always loved Bostons and Infinitys. Any recos? Thinking a nav would be great too. Would love to here others experiences doing this.

mounting depth may be the problem with putting a real 8" sub in the door. i thought about that too, but if your going trought the trouble a really nice head unit, 2 good sets of mids and highs, and the sub(s) seems like the way to go.

give me a few months to get the car running and come up with the funds for the stereo. it should be impressive... or at least look good

4 Subs may be to many for everyday driving. For an SPL comp it would be fine.

Does anyone with a flip out head unit miss there mid dash vent?

Default Alpine IVA-D310 installed w/Sirius in my C5 Z0....

while i am still stoked about the automotive performance side of my car, the audio side of it has been just barely adequate to this point. so now i'm finally on the road to achieving what i like to call an eargasm....lol

UPS delivered this the other day...

and like a kid on christmas day, i get so excited and do this to my ride...

which ultimately led to this...

i then needed to become a member of hair nation (again), so in went the alpine-to-sirius module, and, well, the screen says it all.....

for now, i had the deck "interfaced" with the factory bose system, which sounds surprisingly good thanks to the built-in parametric eq and some tuning.

next on the list is going to be some decent components (jl, alpine) up front most likely driven by two amps (prolly 2-ch. alpine pdx series), one for the mids and one for the tweets (hey, you can never have enough power, right?). i also want to add a sub in the rear well (jl stealth?) being pushed by a third amp (again, alpine pdx mono block).

i'm on my way.....
