Hello...
I'm trying to get an idea of what everyone has done with there after market stereo systems. I have a Black 2001 Z06 Corvette. I want to add a flip out DVD Nav system and a sub to replace the Bose system.
I just have no idea where to put the amps and cap. I was wondering if you guys could post pics of your finished products.
I dont have any photos but I simply added a PAC interface to my existing factory head unit, installed a amp behind my passenger seat, got a custom make sub box for the rear compartment (similar to the JL stealth box) and added a peripheral Ipod2car controller. It sounds amazing and it was simple and cheap, I did the exact same set up in the my Hummer as well but with the factory Navi I can control the ipod from the touch screen. If you plan to leave the existing bose speakers, add a sub and different head unit that should be quite easy, you would just buy a interface to run the factory speakers off the new head unit, the new head unit would have the RCA's for the sub amp already.
Did you have any trouble with finding a ground? Is there any trouble with the amp overheating behind the seat?
I think I'm going to replace all the speakers.
No problems to date with overheat..... been installed for nearly 2.5 years. I used the stud/nut on the seat track for a ground with great results. You may want to peek at the Audio section on this forum..... there are some very knowledgeable people that post often there. Forum members DPG and pentavolvo are both extremely talented with dealing in C5 audio, they are both in my area (Chicagoland) and have done installs and helped a ton of local members with mild to wild installs.
Mine is stock. I am way too lazy to mass with installing an aftermarket stereo in my Z06. I did that with previous car and found that I always had to tweak on it it try and get the sound right. I think the Bose system is fine. Besides, I don't want to take up ant room in the truck by adding a sub.
I was introduced to Corvettes and always understood that their audio systems were best left stock. After viewing the other post with all of the pictures of the audio systems out there I have changed my mind. My only concern with some of the pictures would be "Where in the hell am I supposed to put my golf clubs?"

You should definatley hang out in the "Audio/Electronics" section, theres lots of good info and some really smart guys that can help you more. Its under "General Corvette" section. You should be OK placing the amp behing the seats, and unless your running something crazy, or just want the "bling" I would forget about the cap...not needed. heres my setup...600wrms to the subs and 300 to the fronts...no cap and no dimming at all, or overheating.

Best left stock!? Must have been the dealer that told you that. These audio systems are terrible. Here is an idea for the subs, works well for me and I can still fit golf clubs!
I love mine. for a pair of 8's they hit hard. People don't believe me when they listen to the car that they are 8's in the back.
The best part about these is that you get to keep your center compartment. I know i hated using the smaller cubbies because I couldnt fit much in them. Now I can with the cubby hole subs.
Hey Sean, how are you liking the cubby hole subs from ed?
What is ther Clarion screen under the head unit? Is that just cosmetic?
Its a half din center channel speaker. I guess its pretty much cosmetic seeing as I dont watch DVD very often...but it does have 5.1 surround.
Dave, i love the subs. They really hit in those enclosures. I had some slight fitment issues getting them in there. But now that I look at yours I think I jammed them in the wrong way The probblem is that I think it will be twice as hard to get them out!
Seems like all of my vehicle troubles are always self induced
