Knocking Noise
Hey all.... Heres the problem... when i start my car in the morning (its cold out now and i havent heard this before when it was warmer out) i hear a knocking sound. I dont think its coming from the exhaust because like i said when the car warms up the sound goes away. When i accelerate the knocking sound is faster. Any ideas?

could it be caused from when i reset the settings on my hypertech III? I used the setting where it said i can use premiun 91 octane fuel... should i set this back to using regular fuel? Also i changed the thermnostat to 195... before it would hardly go over 190 now it goes over 210.... should I set the hypertech back to regular fuel and set the thermostat to the lower setting? thanks.

Are you running 91 in her? If not, you could be causing heavy detonation. Also morning knock = piston slap like Oldvetter said. It is normal, nothing to worry about. Why did you change the T-stat to 195? I think 195 is stock anyway. Using the Hypertech, you should use at least a 180. You want to go colder, not hotter. Some go as low as 165.

thanks guys... yes i am running 91 in her.... and i have the non-rfg option selected.... lol thank od its normal at least i dont have to brin git into the mechanic and have her away from me for a week lol. oh and btw i called hypertech and they gave me the base numbers for the shift points... if anyone wants to know just post back here
