Press and hold the page button until you see the rpm bargraph return.

It should cost you $0.

The dealer would have charged $100 for that advice

There are five HUD selections that you can choose to
view in the HUD display. By pressing and holding the
PAGE button, you can scroll through these pages in
the following order:
 Speed Only
 Speed and Gage
 Speed, Tachometer and Gage
 Speed and Tachometer
 Tachometer Only
When you have chosen the desired HUD display,
release the PAGE button.
Gages can be scrolled through by tapping the
PAGE button (only when a gage is displayed).
The gages shown are the following:
 Oil Pressure
 Coolant Temperature
 Fuel Level
The selections that you choose will remain in the
HUD display until they are changed.

I have a strange thing happening with my HUD on my 2001. I keep my HUD selection on Speed, Tach, and Gage with the gage set to Fuel Level but when I shut down and restart the next morning the gage setting has toggled to Oil Pressure. I am thinking my original battery is starting to go causing the HUD to act weird. This happen to anyone else?

Yeah your resetting to defaults. Swap the battery now before it doesn't give you any more warning and leaves you stranded. Some times we miss those subtle messages. Also if you have not had the CLB module installed or the recall, following loss of power to the PCM will invoke column lock issues.

Yes, mine did the same thing. Replaced the battery and the problem was solved

Who says a search of the forum won't yield results! After a year's ownership of my C5, and looking at the full HUD display, (Speed, Tach, and Gages,) I saw a video that showed only the speed, which is all I need. Did a search and found this thread, which will help me get what I wanted (thanks, DeeGee!) Wondered why the owners manual didn't tell me that, and of course, there it was - plain as DRL.

I love this forum. My 02 has been in getting repainted so the battery was disconnected for a month. The HUD setting lost the gage display. Thanks to DeeGee for his post on how to fix it.
