I am the President of our local Corvette club for one more year. We typicaly elect people for the executive for a period of 2 years, which keeps the club from running down the same old street.
I joined to meet people with the same interests as myself and to keep informed on our cars. I have met a lot of really great people that have taught me a lot about the cars and how to get the most out of them.
I take part in the Show and Shines, the Rallies, the Autocross Races, and the Cruises. Because we live in the snow belt we store our cars in the winter and we have social evenings where we can talk cars and have a few refreshments.
Personally I like this club because it has a diverse schedule of activities.
If you were to take part in every event it would take your entire summer. You can pick and choose as to what you want to take part in or you can do your own thing.
I belong to a great Club, see my avatar. We socialize and go on trips and attend events together. Nothing like a long line of Corvettes to get you pumped up.

Here's some of us on an outing in the Adirondacks this summer....
OMG!! Not another Corvette Club thread! Years ago Oliver North was on the stand in the Iran Contra Affair investigation and he invoked his fifth amendment rights when ask about his involvement. I will do the same at the time and offer you this suggestion................run as fast as you can and never look back.
Just say no to the ice cream eating, dairy gueen jumping, Cracker Barrell eating, parade riding, political, exhibitionist, backstabbing son of a guns!
And all that crap about meeting nice people..........some of the phoniest SOB's you will ever meet. There are a few good people.........very few!
So with all that I say .........NO COMMENT!!
You don't need a club to enjoy your Vette!!!!!
Slik
How do you REALLY feel, David?
My opinion is you get out what you put in, and you can find what ever you want in a club. The trips, cruises, parades, mod partys, and yes, Ice Cream is a lot of fun. The key is to go to a few events and a few meetings before joining, and don't get involved unless you ahve thick skin.
As far as the people go, Chevrolet is not very particular who buys the cars, so you will meet all kinds, no matter where you look.

Boy you hit the nail on the head with this one. Yes I belong to a Corvette Club, but not one in the town where I live. The one in the town where I live is EXACTLY what you describe. The wife and I found out the hard way and whenever anyone asks me about that club, I tell them to run fast. A bigger bunch of lame, backstabbers I've never met.
Since I dumped them and joined CCWP, we've been much happier. No one has ever bothered us, or hassled us if we didn't want to take part in things. We do a few things each year with the club and have never been treated anything other than nice. Sure can't say that about the other club.
My opinion is that every Corvette owner should be in a Corvette club if you really love Corvettes. Being with others who feel like you about your car is a beautiful thing to say the least.
The wife and i are members of our local corvette club we have 75 members which gives everyone something to do (car shows, auto X, roadruns, detailing, most everything we do supports different charitys in our area. we have got a very good group of members from all age groups so it makes for a very good club.
If there is anyone that is local and wants to check out one of our meeting you are more than welcome to sit in on 1.
I went on a cruise with one of our local clubs right after I bought the Vette. Most of the folks were nice, but a few seemed stand-off-ish. Went to the next scheduled event and only 1 other guy was there. I decided not to join a club where the organizers couldn't even show up. Went on a cruise with another local club, and was immediately welcomed! Every one was friendly and interested in my car. The first club is into car shows. Me...not so much. The second club is into driving around as a group (or GANG as we were recently called), visiting local sites and grabbing something to eat. Since driving and eating are 2 of my 3 favorite things to do, I joined the second club.

A good club is great people and good times -- driving, partying, and just socializing. A great way to meet people you'll like. A Corvette is more than just a car.
I belong to two different clubs. Lone Star Corvette Club and Big Country Vettes in Abilene. I enjoy the people in both clubs. Always good to be around people with like minded ideas and seeing all the different cars. Owning a Vette is like owning a Harley...You become a part of a family not just owner of a vehicle.

I have been a Corvette freak for many years and my GF and I decided to join a local club last year. I joined it before back in the 90's and never found the time to go back. This time has been different, we have met a lot of really nice people. There are only a few in our club that are true enthuiasts. I was hoping for a lot more real "car guys". Some just have a lot of $$ and can't change a tire. To me it's more than showing off you have a Corvette, I feel a club is a worthy cause and it sends a message of unity to the community, that they do good and not just a bunch of drag racers driving flashy cars. We don't do every event, couldn't if we wanted to. We choose the ones we want to participate in and enjoy. We usually skip the ice cream parties, but that's OK if they want to do that. We intend to give this our best shot and contribute to the things we enjoy and skip what we don't. Really easy, if you keep an open mind. My motto is: Enjoy the car and "Save the Wave"..

Sounds like there are some nice clubs out there. let me tell you about the club in our hometown. About two months ago I wasa going into our local GM dealership to pay for and pick up the SO's new GXP. I drove the C5 over and parked in front. As I got out I saw a guy with a Lakes Area Corvette Club jacket on. As I passed him I knew he wasn't even going to acknowlege me with a nod, so I stopped him and asked about the club. Talk about an arrrogant a**. Turned out he was pres of the club. Wasn't even about to acknowledge a fellow Corvette owner with a wave! I had heard about the club and the holier-than-thou nose in the air attitude before, and he confirmed it. In the past we belonged to the Mn Valley CC, great bunch of people. How much you can enjoy a club also depends on the members in the club.
I've looked into a few, but it seems to me that most of them exist simply to give couples a chance to ride around to eat together with other couples. The cars seem to be purely secondary to the whole thing. As a result, I didn't join.
I enjoy being with people that share the Corvette interest. I use the clubs as a way to enhance my vette experience. I go to events and rides when it's convenient for me. I have gained much knowledge from others and there are car care days that allow me to change the oil with the help of a lift. These clubs also donate time and money to charities that give me a sense of good. I'm a member of the Queen City Corvette Club, www.queencitycorvette.com, and I hooked up with the Metrolina Corvette club, www.metrolinacorvettes.com, last month for a ride. Both are full of good people. Like someone else said, you get out of it what you put into it.
Stay away form club poiltics & cliques and you will do fine
Easy to say - hard to do
I have belonged to three different corvette club and it is almost impossible to stay away from the politics. But when you put all the BS aside you do make some great friends. I am treasurer of a local club and have belonged to it for almost 10 years. Our club is a very social group. we are one of those drive and eat groups although there are members who compete in road events and others in shows. Many members are also members of the National Corvette Museum and have gone on the various caravan to the museum and one of our members is leading the countrywide caravan in 2009. It has been a great experience.
