Someone is trying to tell me that the Z06's have a problem running at the strip hot. They are saying that you really have to let it cool down a lot in between runs, and cannot just get back in line, and run it "hot" again without doing a major cooldown (or time will suffer a lot). Is this true? I have not seen one comment on this, and have been reading for months. I have thinking it came from a non-Corvette Owner.
Anytime that you hotlap any car it is going to suffer on the second run...... HEAT = LESS POWER which would be the case for all internal combustion engines, not just a Z06.
It will not be harmful to drag the car back to back though.
Same with dyno pulls, getting the engine back to cooler temp will make for better numbers/readings between pulls if you are tuning and doing pulls back to back, and those fans they use in front of the cars when being dyno'ed do not really do much.
I made 4-5 runs back to back and didn't notice the performance dropping off. The last run was when I ran 11.96(DR and CAI) and that was my best pass all day.
A C5Z with a stock PCM produces best acceleration when the coolant temp is around 194. If it's above or below that number, acceleration is progressively diminished because the motor makes less power.
I ran my all my 11.5X passes at coolant temp of about 194.
One way to keep the coolant temp at around 194 when hop-lapping is to use the C5 Fan Trick.
