Default Where to go to replace wheels

I am looking for a reliable place in NW Austin to remove my old rims/tires and put on the new ones. I am purchasing the rims and tires (already mounted and balanced) this weekend in Dallas and would like to find a place that will mount them for me. Anyone got any experience with any shops local to me that have experience with vettes that I can trust? I will post in Southwest section as well.

Are you serious? Anyone can do this. All it takes is a floor jack and a lug wrench. You really should do it yourself if you want reliable.

BUT ANYONE can do it.

No special tools needed. If I were in your area, I'd do it for you.

I wish you were close and I would come over and do it for you. Just pick a good place and make sure they torque them properly.

Post in the regional section and a member might come over and do it for you.

I appreciate it. If I had a floor jack, I would do it. Would I go out and buy one for this one time use? Doubt it. I am not a mechanic and have no desire/free time to get underneath the car to work on it. If I coud find someone else to do it cheaper than buying a floor jack, that's what I am after.

Wait until you see what's involved with lugging your 4 mounted tires to the shop to have them changed......... and then lug the other ones home.

Hopefully you'll find someone to come to your house and spend 10 minutes with you and do it right there.

oh come on bro.. get your hands a little dirty.. it would be of your best interest to buy a 50$ floor jack.. you will save a lot of money and heartache in the long run... its doesnt take a mechanic to swap wheels

But, if you really don't want to mess with it yourself, check with other Corvette owners and see where they take theirs.

I do not have a jack either.. but I borrowed my neighbors when I raised my car to do the "lowered on stock bolts" mod. I took the front wheels off to do that part. If you have a torque wrench(to set, it's almost too easy to do.. of course you can tighten them without a torque wrench too...

If I had a jack, I would come by and just do it for you.. it's that simple, really. Otherwise, some folks in Austin that I talk to use discount tire for all of their tire purchases/changes. They seem to be everywhere. Go by one of them, see if they have the necessary lift for your car (and you can get to stand next to them while they do it! and you should be good to go.

I agree, get a floor jack and do it yourself, that way it'll be done right. Oh, by the way, if you jack your car up, be sure to use JACK PUCKS!!!!! It'll take all of 30 minutes and there well be no scratched wheels, chipped jacking points and heaven knows what else they'll screw up. Just my 2 cents! Ron

I do understand that it is not difficult if you have the tools as I have changed many a flat and on this car I have replaced my window motor, headlight gears, shift and e brake boots, put in the LED Hyper flash fix, etc...

Floor jack, jacking pucks, torque wrench.... is why for me personally, it is much easier/cheaper to find a local Discount tire to do it. My basic question was is anyone in NW Austin familiar with a Discount Tire (or similiar type) location that they have taken their car to and not had to chew your fingernails to the quick hoping the guys don't scratch the paint, crack the rocker panels, scratch the wheels, have the car fall off the lift (read that thread not too long ago) etc... and that would do it inexpensively.

Hey Tyler -

I might have to go there. I've been there for a few other things and was pleased. They just changed shop managers, so maybe I could talk him into helping me out. I really just wanted something closer to my house by Lakeline Mall. I am picking them up this weekend so if nothing pans out by then I will go there.

What are you going to get after you sell your car?

Jon

Look in your local area for someone who deals in high end wheels........they'll likely be good.
