Default New Stereo - Part One...

As some of you know I'm installing a Kenwood DNX 7100 in my Vert. Console is at C5 Kidd's (Hopefully on it's way back soon). So this weekend I decided to pull it apart, get the sound deadening kit in and get the wiring done. So Saturday I started on it.

First off I purchased a a spare radio cage, figured it would be easier to mod out of the car then in it. Well that didn't go as planned. When I got to the point of getting ready to pull it, after fighting with the dash and all the bolts that hold it in I realized that the shifter cable goes right though the cage. Immediately I had a flash back of Dennis (C5 BearsFan) on when he did his and broke the cable. So at that point I figured mod the cage in the car.

Well anyway let's get to the pic's.

First a little mod I did before hand, new drivers visor with a built in homelink...

The I got to pulling her apart....

Old System out...

Almost naked inside...

Now the fun of modding the cage in the car. I have a cordless sawzall and it was working great until both my chargers failed... Took a drive to Lowe's and found this neat tool. A small flexible drill attachment.

This worked great. You just have to watch if the bit takes a hold of the metal. Look out.... That thing will twist...

Now that I had all the brackets out of the cage I took the air hose and blew all the shavings down to the floor and vacuumed them out.

Now on to the sound deading....

Have to finish up the trunk area and then get started on the wiring and speakers. Oh here's a dry fit of the new stealth sub woofer box from SubThump.

Hopefully my bezel is on it's way back to me. I've PM, emailed and left voice mails for Brian (C5 Kidd) on it. He has had it since October 26 and stated it would take two weeks. In the beginning of the week he did send me a PM stating it was modded and ready for texture and paint and should be shipped by the end of the week. He was going to send me a tracking number but as of today no tracking number.

Stay tuned for Part Two when I do the wiring and speaker.....

Nice work so far Wayne. A little trick for when drilling out the brackets is to stuff an old rag under where you are drilling to catch the material. Good thing you remembered about the shifter cable. It has a limit of 6" i believe. If you need any help let me know. Keep up the good work and the progress pics are great.

Thanks Dave... Never thought about a old towel or blanket under them. Just figured I have the air hose just blow the shavings out... If I run into any problem areas I'll give you a shout....

Thanks Tom... So far this weekend, Saturday and Sunday. From about noon to 5 or so... Most of the time trying to figure out how to get the brackets out and some time spent running to Lowes... I figure I should be ready for the head unit install next Sunday after the wiring...

Lori, not by any chance, is your car sitting outside in the cold because of this?

Looks good Wayne, if you havent already its a good idea to double up the layers of sound deading in the footwell areas and wheel wells and behind the seats. I did all this a few months back with my stereo, add deading and ensolite on top of everything to keep the sounds in. Also put it on all the interior panels and door skins and inside the bumper to minigate the vibrations of the sub. Keep us posted.

Thanks Mike... Good idea, if I can find something that will work at Lowe's or Home Depot I'll do it... I did the same sound deadening in Lori's car and the way she plays her stereo there is no hearing any vibrations....
