Thanks for the comments and ideas. The tailgate party was the best. I also thought of another solution. I can just buy one of those mirrors that make things seem farther away than they really are. Doesn't solve the problem, but it would trick me into thinking the perp is actually 3 or 4 car lengths behind.
Since getting my C5 I have noticed that I get tailgated a lot more than with any other car I've owned. This annoys me to no end, and wonder if I'm just over-reacting or if others have noticed the same thing.
I was driving along, chattin' w/ my friend when i noticed the car behind me (Bout 200 yards) that had been following at that same distance for about a mile, came shooting up on me... for no particular reason... The car came flying up on me so fast, i thought for sure he was going to pass me on a double yellow. I made no change in speed and just said to my passenger: "Watch this idiot pass me on double yellow..." But instead of passing, the car just sat on my butt... 2 feet off my bumper... I kept checking my mirror thinking: "WTF is this guy's problem? Freakin Impala Won't get off my a$$!!!!" I still maintained ~50mph speed limit. Then after about half a mile, up & down hilly terrain, with this car tailgating, his windshield lights up Blue & Red... and his headlights start strobing! It's an unmarked squad car.
I pulled over... The Cop asked me if i knew what the speed limit was... i said "50" he said "Then whey were you going 53?" (Flashes from Supertroopers flew into my head...) and I said "I honestly didn't realize i had speed up the 3mph sir, sorry..." He let me off with a warning...
I was pretty ticked that he tailgated me for half a mile... 2 ft off my bumper... I'm sure my 3mph infraction was considerably more dangerous, than his .1s Following Distance... freakin jerk...
More on Topic i suppose... I wouldn't say i get tail gated anymore than usual around here... It's pretty common on I-5 in WA... Besides - my car is loud as hell... ride close enough and It probably gets irritating... hehe
