Since getting my C5 I have noticed that I get tailgated a lot more than with any other car I've owned. This annoys me to no end, and wonder if I'm just over-reacting or if others have noticed the same thing.
I hear you...same with me.
One thing you have to remember is that they may be following you "about" the same as if you were driving another car, but the Vette is quite a bit shorter than your typical car so they feel even closer than normal.
Make sense?!?
They still need to stay back!!
Don't think your average car is going to outbrake a Vette
Had one to close to my rump the other day. Turned on the lights really quick and watched him dance all over his dash board.
When I rode a bike, tailgating on my rear wheel was the norm so I carried a couple of old spark plugs. If you drop them just right they rattle all around under the frame of the car that is tailgating you. They back off pretty quick.
I have noticed it in my vette also,I guess because most of the time I drive a ford crew cab long bed dually. That thing is long as a train and looking in the rear view they look a long way off compared to the vette.
I hate tailgaters. Been hit twice, both time spent in the hospital. Luckly not in the Vette. When I see someone really close behind me, my blood starts to boil.

Yes it does but I have observed this and posted on it previously. I think they are so impressed with the car they want to get a closer look at the handsome driver too!
I had the pulse brake light installed and I have noticed that it takes care of the majority of tailgaters and the tap on the headlights trick works nicely..
I've noticed it too, but I live in 4X4 truck country and I think it has to do with the fact that the trucks headlights are looking down on me....
Yup...4x4 country is a lot nice of a term than I was going to use
When I was a young buck (before the C5), I'd just downshift without breaking. Normally all I'd see were a big set of eyes and a dashboard dance (great phrase by the way ). That really seemed to upset people though. Now I just tap the breaks enough to flash the brake lights. If they don't get the hint, I just slow down until they pass me. When that happens, I think, I'd drive that fast too if I was driving that junker!
everybody does that in nj during rush hour usually 75 to 80
Try DALLAS. they like to rub your bumper. Scares me to drive the Vette out there. Now i Take the crew cab 2500 chevy. figure if they gonna run over me,I don't want to be in a Vette...
In the C5, you're sitting pretty far back in the car, in a very low position, and the car has a relatively high rear. These factors make it seem worse than it is. It's not that you're not being tailgated, it's just that it looks alot worse in the vette.
