I use an Eagle Scissors lift. It can lift 6000 lbs and can raise the car 48 inches off the floor. I do have to use some 2x10/12's to get the car high enough to clear the lift. I just leave them in place and drive the car onto them when I park it. If the Vette was as high as my wife's Saturn SC2 I wouldn't need the boards. The lift works great and I use it to work on my wife's car and my Tahoe. The 48 inch raise is just the right height to allow me to sit on my little rollaround chair and get under the front and rear of the car.
Scissors lifts will not let you get into the center part of the car as the lift blocks access so they may not be the best choice if you need to work on the center part of the car.
Here are some pics of the car on the lift. The last 2 pictures show the car just clearing the garage door with the lift at its highest point.
The car/lift is steady with the lift at its highest point. I can really put some force on things and not be afraid of the lift tipping over.

Wow thanks for the pics and info - that was exactly what I was looking for.
So I read the min lift height is 4". You can't clear that? I assume the width is not a problem as it fits between the wheels right?
The Vette will ride over it but the problem is getting my hands underneath to adjust the radial arms that lift the car, install the hockey pucks in the frame and put the rubber lift pads on the arms. Lifting the car about 3 inches by using the boards gives me enough room to reach under the car and get everything in place. Also the front spoiler really drags over the lift if I don't use the boards. Since I track the car I have the center spoiler locked in place with duct tape and don't want to damage it or cause the tape to tear. Without the boards the spoiler would also be a problem when backing off the lift as it would be trying to twist the wrong way.

Yes, there are at least 3 stops for the safety lock.

Nice setup. There are pics around here somewhere where a person cut into the garage floor and the lift sits in there. Cut a hole into the floor at the same height as the base of the lift then cemented in. Car clears the lift with no problems. It was a nice setup.
Do a seach for the lift on the Forum.. Another member took care of the clearance problem by digging a small pit for the lift. I may have the link I have to look for it. But he did a great job and it looks GREAT.

Here you go take a look at this set up........
Make sure that the lift arms are long enough so that you lifting pucks line up well. I have a gregsmith lift and the arms were not long enough. Had to make new arms to make work. Gregsmith said arms would work when I bought it but didn't. Made new arms out of 1''x4''x24''bar stell and grade 8 6'' bolts. It works great now. I also toke 2x12 16' and then toke 2x4x12 spaced about 16'' apart on bottom side screw in place with 2'' screw this gives the height you need to clear. Doing it this way gives you the height and keeps ramps lite for moving around.
Why not get a BendPak pit lift. This will leave the entire area under the car open and you can work on the whole drivetrain. I believe the model is a P6. It bolts to the floor and works great. I have one in my garage. Here is a link http://www.bendpak.com/cart_product_...=261&cat_id=49
I got my through the internet for about $1500 and had it installed by someone they recommended that was local to me.That was $400 I am very satisified with mine.
Actually it isn't. I do a lot of work on the brakes and suspension plus change tires all the time. A 4 post would be a big PIA as you still have to lift the car off the rails once you get the lift in the air. I can change all of the fluids in the car plus do all the track related work and I don't have those damned posts in the way.

Problem with this one is the lifting height is only 26 inches. Eagle actually sells Bend Pack lifts similar to it that lift the car high enough you can walk under it. http://eagleequip.com/page/EE/PROD/LI-SC/SP-7X However, they are more than double the price of the Mid Rise Scissors lifts.
