I have Dex Cool coolant in my 2000 vette. I have read many articles that it is not good to use it. I called to get a coolant flush and I asked what they use. I said the manual recommends Dex and he said it is not good as can cause more damage than good. He said I was better off using a multi purpose coolant. What are all of your thoughts?
The old DEXCOOL is evil discussion arises from the dead again.
When DEXCOOL was first introduced, GM supplemented it with tablets for some reason. Those tablets and air being allowed into the cooling system caused problems...a thick sludge which often ended up causing blockage in the heater core.
This was most commonly reported in mid '90s vehicles like the LT1/LT4 Corvette and Impala SS with iron block/aluminum heads.
The tablets have since been eliminated. The orange extended life coolant from DEXCOOL or PRESTONE is the way to go. It's also better for the all aluminum components in your Corvette and the enviroment.
