Default Rear Lights Not Working

hey guys again thank you so much for your responses your knowledge has helped me save a TON of money (sounds like a pseudo-geico commercial)

My issue I'm having is my rear lights are not working. I thought it might be the fuse so I changed it and they still are not working. I wonder what else it could be?

when putting my car into reverse is there a possibility that something is just not connected?

my last question is my cigarrette lighter in the dash. I had also changed the fuse for it as it was not working (a penny fell into it one day and it sparked) I check the fuse and it was fine anyway.

Since a penny fell in it and sparked then I'm assuming that I might have to pull it out of the dash but what would I need to replace?

thank you very much for your responses

It could be fuses but theres a connector under the rear passenger wheel well that may be disconnected or dirty. Worth checking that for a start.

Back up lights, brake lights or tail lights...a combination or all of them? It might narrow the problem down to know specifically. Back up lights could be related to the back up light switch on the transmission, etc.
It used to be that when your tail lights or brake lights did not function, your dash lights were also not functioning. I don't know if that's still the case on more recent vehicles or not.

If it's your back-up lights check fuse #21 I believe under your passenger floorboard, and see if it's blown. If that fuse is good swap out your reverse switch located on the passenger side of your transmission. That should fix the problem, and the part is $12 at Autozone and 18 at the dealer.

Here is a thread on this subject from a couple months ago, and it had some good info and diagrams on it. The search button is your friend.

If your reverse lights don't work , unlock car with key fob, do the reverse do the reverse lights come on? they should! If they do and you still get no back up lights in reverse then change the reverse light sender on the left side of trans. (on standard) it's a 5 min. job.
