It's a little too much tire for the OEM 8.5" wide wheel. (width wise)
On a 9.5" wheel it would be fine, matched up to something like a 295/35x18 on a 10.5" wheel in the rear.

Height is fine, and yes, that size works well on the front.

However, it is a bit wide for the stock 17x8.5" wheel size. The 275 usually calls for a minimum of 9" wide wheel. If you have 17x9.5" fronts, then yes, it's a good size to use.

Remember 275's were mounted on your rear 18x9.5 wheels from the factory.

They have 245/45/17s on them right now, how much wider is the 275/40/17? I think I have 8.5" wheels on the front.

I have some almost new 275/40/17 tires from my 03 cobra and my wifes 2000 vette really needs some front tires and I don't want to spend any money on them because that is money that I could be spending on my 03 Z06, LOL!

How much wider? 275mm - 245mm = 30mm

30mm = 1 3/16"

IF you have the OEM rims, then yes they are 8.5"
