THere is no car that is safe. Every accident can be a risk of death. If you are afraid to driving your corvette, bring it over, I'll drive it haha.
From what I've read and researched, they are durable and safe. Again, the tests they do on cars is not a exact duplicate of a crash, you can never predict how an accident will result. So no matter what car you drive, the risk is always there.
IMO, everyone will die, but only a few will live. If I haven't been at least a 1/4 second away from instant death at least once, I haven't lived that day.

Well I feel much safer in my 4000lbs Crown Vic... that thing is a tank... slow as ****, handles like crap but safe... I was just curious about the vette.

There have been a lot of posts here on the forum that state the C5 did very well when involved in an accident. I do know that my insurance company mentioned that the collision rates are lower on the C5 than many other cars out there.
I recall seeing a C-05 at a salvage auction that had been hit in the front. The entire front end was compressed right up to the firrewall. I doubt there was anything salvagable from that front end. The air bags were blown (naturally) but the rest of the passenger compartment was pretty much intact. I was amazed enough that I made sure my wife saw the the car and observe it's ability to take a lick.
Yeah, he must be living a charmed life to walk away with just a few bumps...but the Corvette does get good crash ratings. Sometimes people don't deserve to have bad stuff happen, but more often than not, they can bring it on themselves. If you drive like a moron, it will catch up to you.
I was on wrecked exotics yesterday looking around, why does every corvette seem to loose it's passenger door pannel in a wreck. I didn't notice as much on the driver side (it very well might be the same) but the passenger side door pannel seems to jump off the car in an accident.

Yea, I noticed that too, guess it must be that option I didn't get, "the explosive bolt passanger door panel drag anchor"....lucky I got the driver ejection seat as standard equipment....
About three years ago I lost control of my dad's 2000 c5 convertible. I was not wearing a seatbelt and the top was down. I ran through a chain link fence, and on the other side were several 18 wheelers. I hit one in the front corner at around 60 and pushed it about twenty feet back into two other parked 18 wheelers. The insurance claim was around $130,000. I walked away with only a small scratch on my head where the fence hit me.
A year later I bought my own C5, and turned it into an over 600rwhp monster. I think the car is very safe.

The only time I feel unsafe is when I park it and walk away from my C5. When I'm behind the wheel I believe I can avoid just about any hazard out there. Of course some idiot can rear end you and there's not much you can do about that. But then I spent my formative years driving Triumphs and MGs. Talk about coffins on wheels.
Hydroformed chasis around your body, stability control, air bags, ABS, 350 HP, .9g's in the turn, stops from 60 in less than 120 feet, and you are worried!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe a Vette is not for you!!!!!!!
About a month ago I was driving my FRC on an open stretch of highway. There was not a single car around and I felt the need to open her up and ended up hitting a concrete barrier going around a corner way too fast. The trooper said by looking at the skid marks that I spun out about 4 times before coming to a stop. Both passenger wheels shattered from the impact at that high speed. The center pieces of the wheels were still attached to the hub assembly. Somehow I walked away without a scratch and luckily no one was was involved.
For some reason I am starting to be a bit of a chicken**** when driving my vette.
It is so low to the ground that even a camry looks scary...
I am particularly concerned about side impacts and frontal impacts...
Does anyone have any stories to share?
I guess the ones that don't have the stories because they are 6feet under would be a better group to poll but I am still curious.
As was stated previously, it is FAR safer than my Harley! You want safer, buy a SUV, and that's no guarantee of safety. Drive defensively; the Corvette can get out of the way quicker than most of the big tubs it may encounter out there if the driver is not asleep at the wheel, or gabbing on a cell phone! Enjoy the Vette, don't sweat the stats!
