Default Stopping Power.

My brake pads wont see it through an other 10k km.

What are the options open to me? First off are their better pads to purchase than the stock ones? One thing i really hate is the high level of dust kicking off the pads.

If we go for a bigger upgrade to drilled disks and pads what kind of cost etc is in that.

Go on - talk to me

stopping power and dust are directly proportional...
The less dust the less stopping pwer
The more stopping pwoer , the more dust

For less dust go with ceramic pads. AC/Delco Durastops are a good choice. They dust less and their light gray colored dust is less visible.
For more dtopping power go with Hawk HP + pads. They work exceptionally well but create heavy black dust.

I'm sure others will answer you query re upgrading to larger brakes

Personally - I would stay away from the ceramics. I have Hawk HPS pads which still offer great stopping power, and they dust considerably less than the Hawk HP+.

If the car is simply a daily driver, and you're not "carving canyons" or doing the occasional HPDE - stick with the OEM pads. They were specifically developed for the C5 and they do a great job. Same goes for the drilled and slotted rotors. I have Wilwoods, and they look great and very racy....but the reality is the slots and holes do nothing to improve braking performance. I didn't buy the ones I have - the previous owner installed them.

If it were me - have your brake fluid drained and refilled with fresh DOT5 brake fluid, make sure your brake lines are in good shape, use new Delco OEM pads and you should be good to go.

I also went the middle ground with the Hawk HPS and like them much better over the OEM pads

I'm using Hawk HPS pads on mine and they have worked out very well. I haven't noticed much dusting on the wheels and they provide very good stopping power.

Good advice above! Stock OEM equipment is just fine for anything you will ever encounter on the street. If you thinking about tracking (rr) your car, that's a different story. In that case I would go with Stop Tech or Brembo GTs with slotted non drilled rotors. If you're not tracking the car save the $4,000-$6,000 and stick with what you have.

NEVER use DOT5 brake fluid in a vette (or any car with ABS)! It is incompatible with the factory fill and will cause major problems.

Use DOT3, DOT4 or DOT5.1 only.

^^The point is repeatable stopping power with a minimum of brake dust. When I get finished modding my car over the winter it will probably have 450 rwhp not to mention a racing suspension (coilovers, poly bushings, racing sway bars, etc). I want brake pads that can handle the increased power and speed my car will have. It's probably the least expensive item I have bought and from a safety standpoint a real bargain.
