Default How does it know you opened the driver door?

Where is the switch?
The problem started last night. I got home and turned off the headlights. The instrument lights stayed on. When I opened the door, got out, closed the drivers door, the instrument panel lights did not go out. This morning when I got to work the same thing happened again. Each time I turned the headlights on and off a couple of times before the panel lights went off. Any ideas? By the way it's a '04 cpe.

Don't know where the switch is, but the instrument lights are supposed to stay on for a while after you close the door. They'll go off by themselves.

Check the manual to be sure, but I think they do stay on for a bit and then go off by themselves.

the door latch has a sensor - with the door open if you click it with a screwdriver or whatever (like the stationary post does when you close the door) when the door is open - it will tell the car the door is closed, thus you can have the interior light shut off with the door still open. BUT before closing the door remember to pull the interior door handle like your opening the door to reset the latch to close as normal. Or else the door bangs closed and bounces re-open. and you'll say:

Just givin' back to those who gave to me!

This place has saved me more money and increased my gonads to the point where I actually bought some tools. Whether or not I will fix more stuff than I break is yet to be seen. Stay tuned!

Thanks to all the replies. Maybe had a senior moment. I checked yesterday when I got home. Had not turned on headlights. Got out ,watched the dash lights. They did go out by themselves in about 15 sec and later ther "dome" lights also when out. Sorry for panicking!

I wish it didn't do that. I accidently left the trunk a little bit unlatched one night and the dome light stayed on. I usually look at the car as the garage door closes, but I just assume the light will go off after a couple of seconds.

I believe they are suppose to. Did you monitor how long before they shut off after you locked the door?

Same thing with the door panel controls, they will stay illuminated a few seconds longer than the rest of the panel and interior lights have shut down.

Here ya go:

Exit and Entry Lighting
With entry lighting, the interior lamps will come on
when entering the vehicle for up to 20 seconds.
With exit lighting, the interior lamps will come on
when the key is turned to OFF or a door is ajar for
about 20 seconds.
You can turn exit and entry lighting off by quickly
turning the headlamps on and off or by quickly
turning the courtesy lamps on and off.
