Just got my battery tender plus and was wondering if anyone had a write up with some pics of install. I love my z and iam paranoid with electrical objects around it. Thanks and happy hoildays
Simple install, couple of different ways to install the connector with the eyelet connectors.
1. Red (+ positive connection to the positive battery connection located under the cover of the fuse/relay box. There is a ground lug for the negative eyelet located on the frame between the battery box and the engine. If you look down there you'll find it. Thats the way I hooked mine up, keeps all the connections off the battery post. You could also just connect the negative eyelet on the negative battery post.
2. Simply connect the positive eyelet to the positive battery post, and the negative eyelet to the negative battery post.
3. If you really want to simplify, just use the spring clip connectors to both posts.
Just remember positive to positive, negative to negative, the rest is bulletproof.
Lots of options, boils down to personal preference.
Did you get instructions with your BATTERY TENDER? If not, you could contact DELTRAN CORPORATION. You should familiarize yourself with the operation of the product, especially the meaning of the flashing/steady red/green LEDs and what they designate during charging.
I have my BATTERY TENDER PLUS connected permanently to the (OPTIMA) top posts with the power cord running beneath the engine compartment so I can keep the hood closed and car cover on during winter hibernation.
Remember to disconnect before you move the car...don't ask...it's bound to happen to you, too!

Just plug it into the wall, hook the red clip to the red terminal on the battery and the black clip to the black terminal on the battery. That's all it takes. I lower my hood down but do not latch it,
You can also buy the cigarette lighter plug in rather than putting it on the battery posts.
My instructions said not to use the cigarette lighter plug for long term use, because you could damage your electrical system. I don't know how, I am just telling you what I read.

That's about it............. I'm shocked (no pun intended) that anyone would be stumped with a battery tender...

Oldvetter,
Are you using a Deltran Battery Tender?
I've heard about this before (don't use the cigarette lighter plug for long term storage) but I'm unable to locate this anywhere on Deltran's website or in the instruction manual:
(I believe you BTW, not calling you out ); I've been using the cigarette lighter plug for the past two years without any issues but never for "long term" (maybe two or three weeks ).

When i first got the battery tender plus in 03 thats when i got the car i called the company up about the instructions that came with the tender i was told just hook black to black terminal and red to red terminal and thats it just plug it in and it is set for the winter.
I am sort of paranoid about battery tenders since my wife cut out a newspaper article where a corvette was destroyed and garage was burnt down while being hooked up to a battery tender. When I use one now I hook it up in the morning and unplug it a night. Here in Florida during the summer and severe lightning I unplug it as well. I don't want a lightning strike to follow the lines into the car's computers.

Except with any charger I have ever used I hook it up first, then plug it in.

Did the article state what type of float maintenance charger failed? BATTERY TENDER (PLUS or JR.) is a specific model made by DELTRAN CORPORATION.
Both BATTERY TENDER and CTEK have electronics which work as a safe guard against failures.
People tend to say "battery tender" instead of float maintenance charger in a generic manner, like "kleenex" instead of tissue. They're not referring to the specific manufacturer.
Many people like to buy less expensive (manufactured offshore) float maintenance chargers from WALMART or HARBOR FREIGHT. They tend to refer to them as battery tenders.
I have no problem with that, it's their car to do with as they please. They might work for years w/o a failure. Worst case scenario could be what you read about in the newspaper article.
But keep in mind that these less expensive devices are brought to the USA courtesy of the same people who put lead in children's toys. They probably don't have the safe guards built into the electronics.

iam not stumped with the hook up of the battery tender, however i saw some misleading things about it and figured better safe then sorry. Iam new to the corvette scene and never heard of a battery tender before reading on this site. Sorry if anyone was bothered by the post.

I dont think you ever have to be worried about bothering anyone on the corvette forum with your post it was a normal question to ask so don't worry
