I wanted to ask him to make sure, but isnt CAD just basically Computer Art Design? Or simply Photoshop?

That picture looks Photoshopped, which technically is CAD.(?)

I am serious and would like to know. I have taken pictures and made identical replicas with Photoshop, so I am wondering if there is a difference.

CAD (computer aided design, sometimes called computer aided drawing) and photoshop are two completely different types of programs. With CAD you start with a blank page and using the mouse you draw something (more commonly used in engineering). Photoshop is a program for manipulating already created images. The very sharp looking image that HMannini has posted looks more like something photoshop can do, but maybe newer CAD programs allow you to do this also.

Thank you. Photoshop is PRIMARILY for enhancing/manipulating already created images, although I have managed through painstaking effort to create FROM Photoshop. Its not easy.

But, thank you for clarifying. You answered my question. I would be interested in somehow obtaining a basic CAD program. I am also curious if the new 9.0 has some of the CAD capabilities?

I am also wondering if your last sentence was a typo? "but maybe newerPS programs allow you to do this also" ??? I will research.

No, it wasn't a typo, what I meant was, with CAD your lines are hard and sharp, but maybe with the newer programs you are able to soften the lines to get the effect that the image HMannini has shown. Photoshop does contain some CAD properties to what extent I couldn't tell you I'm a novice at Photoshop. I have used both programs, I'm not very good with either, and a have no formal training in either. But from my limited experience as I said earlier it looks more like a photoshop or similar type program than a CAD program. But what ever it is, I like it.

This is a car I drew for someone. I wasnt into cars (like I am now) and I dont even know what it is. I drew it about 5 years ago.

These are my first love. I was drawing loggers in the mountains when I was 5. I don't even know if logging is nationwide.

They are Peterbilts. I can draw them in my sleep. I will work on the Vette and see if I can get it to a science.

Those trucks were "doodled" on my dispatch sheets. My boss doesnt care cuz its a trucking company.

And no, we dont haul logs.

Ed Roth,.."Big Daddy ", sure had alot of wild creations. He always advertised in the early editions of Hot Rod / Carcraft magazines..

Nice work Tricep

Thank you for clarifying. I was hoping you wouldnt take offense thinking I may have worded it wrong. I would love to see some of your work. People that say they are novices are usually pretty good. They are just admitting that they are still learning. Once they think they have stopped learning and know it all, a problem arises.

Thank you again. Doing my research.

BTW, I also like the work, but as I previously stated , I did an exact replica of that style with Photoshop. There has to be a noticeable difference somewhere and that is why I wouldnt want to waste my money on another program.

Still researching.

Also, thank you for the compliment legman. I am going to attempt to get the lines smoother on the Vettes. Those big trucks are always first time attempts because I have been drawing them for almost 40 years. The corvette, well, you can see all of the eraser marks.

Thank you.

Nice! Looks like some watercolor, mechanical pencil... what else? I have dabbled a bit with watercolor. No Vettes though.

The "spattering" behind the biker looks so much like the thumb over the toothbrush technique in watercolor.

Excellent work.

There is a whole lotta talent in this forum.

Unbelievable!

I guess all the mod's we do to our cars- somehow, someway, are a form of Corvette art...

I guess they call it "expression" in some circles.

Awesome woodwork. Someone's gonna wanna buy some.
