Wow, this one got heated

Looks like you have the answer

If I could pose a follow on (dumb) question

Is the reason GM fit the higher temp thermostat in the stock car to save fuel - in other words to improve fuel use statistics for the DoT? Or does the short trips factor come into play?

Some people will always believe that whatever works on a race car, it's got to work on my Corvette...or the old carburetor/non computer car "tricks" will still work on my Corvette.
It's your car to do with as you please.

The stock t-stat is 192 so no matter what you will never run under 192. Program fans whatever never less then 192.

So lowering the t-stat will give you the ability to run lower temps. Now lower the fan speed temps and this will also help you to run lower temps in slow stop and go traffic.

Here where it's freeking hot in the summer every little bit helps.

The other comment about BS is totally BS ,here is the add and the link from Corvette Central .

Racers know that a cooler running engine is a better performing engine. By reducing engine-running temperatures, the engine will make more power through better thermal and volumetric efficiency. This new 160-degree thermostat replaces the factory 195-degree unit, allowing coolant to circulate at lower engine temperatures, keeping the engine cooler. Installing this thermostat couldn't be simpler, and it comes complete with detailed instructions. Off Road use only.

For 2004 use part #245010

Maybe you should call them up and tell them to stop spreading BS

Sorry folk's just tired of some jerks on this forum

I called them they did not pick up
