Today at 8AM on my drive into a buddie's house in LA.
All my import friends talk about how inefficient V8's are with mileage. Suck on this guys!
GOTTA LOVE IT!!!

The progress that has been made with fuel efficiency for V8s is amazing. I regularly see 30+ mpg's from my car out on the highway. Got to love these performance economy cars.
It's not just the fuel efficiency of the V-8 in the 'Vette that give us great mileage.
You can thank the designers of the C5 body who got the coefficient of drag down to .29 and the people who designed the smooth underbody panels for better air flow.
And you can thank the engineers who strived to keep the weight of the C5 down. They ended up with a curb weight of around 3,200 lbs. ALL this helps contribute to the overall good mileage we enjoy with our C5's.

I think a lot of people have the misconception that
performance and fuel economy don't go hand-in-hand
especially a 'Vette.Whenever anyone asks me the kind
of mileage I get it's usually a response.
Then I explain aerodynamics,power-to-weight ratio,etc.
Then I get a "I would never have guessed" You think ?

How do you manage to get such high MPG. I can only get about 20-21 city and only about 23-24 on the highway.
Dont know how he does it, but I have noticed, after reseting the avg. fuel MPG's a few times, if you keep your foot out of it, it goes up dramaticly!
Only one problem here...... how to keep the right foot out of it!
If you figure that out, let me know!!
Foot in it-- about 21-22, foot off it-- about 27-28.

Reason: 27 not 17-- dooooope
We were coming home from our vacation house in Daytona last year,on I-95 all flat land ,I put it on Cruise at 60mph for about an hour to see what I could get ,it's and auto w/273 rear .I was shocked to see 38.5 MPG ,that beats my Honda 4 banger mileage by12 mpg.
Beats my Acura TL hands down, both city and highway. On a round trip of 2,500 miles to the east coast in September, I averaged 31 mpg. On long stretches, I just put it on cruise and watch the average climb.

Do you have an automatic or manual? Manuals have two overdrives so they can get higher mpg's. You can see my sig for my mods and I can still get around 28 mpg on the highway.
damn i think my c5 is special when i drove from orlando to miami and back(with out a roof on since i became part of the flying roof club and i was going to pick up a new one)my average, including getting lost for 45 minutes in the city of miami, was 34.7, just put it in 6th and set the cruise with no AC since there was no need(no roof) best average i ever got

I have an A4 with the Z51 package. I have added the Vararam intake, headers,X-pipe, high flow cats and Corsa exhaust. I do keep the tires inflated properly. I will try to keep my lead foot off the pedal and see what happens.
