I gotta weigh in here. The concept of letting people drive/ride is what made me fall in love. I always liked the look of the vette, but never had been in one. In the fall of 1999 I got to drive one that my best friend at the time was getting his dad for his 40th bday (his mom was buying it, not him). So we went early to pick it up and drive it around before showing up with the sled. That was a day that changed the way I thought about cars forever. That ride in the 1999 coupe, torch red....it was unreal, awesome, and just plain fun. I told myself from that day forward...I will have one of these plain and simple. My wife, mom, and dad have thought I was crazy for the last several years as I talked about them, looked at them, etc. They all see cars as bad investments that transport you. I viewed it like buying a permanent vacation that I get to have 1.5 hours a day. I bought my vette earlier this year...and I literally smile ever morning my tush hits that fine leather. I just laugh ever morning and have to pinch myself that I am getting to drive the finest American sports car.
My wife's reaction was one of complete support when I got serious about buying it. She told me to make it happen. I was blown away. Now she thinks it is an amazing car and I think likes it nearly as much as I do.
My folks visited recently and my dad got a "spirited" ride. I would venture to guess he will own one within 2 years. He is near retirement and has the bug that I caught that day in 1999.
I too share with you all in making sure people get to experience a ride or even a drive (if I trust them). That is how the vette legend lives on in my eyes.
As far as compliments...everyday I get a few...some of my favorites have come from porsche owners. I work with a guy who drives a porsche and he actually told me that he likes my car better than his...says it is way faster and slicker looking...I just can muster up the strength to tell him I paid half what he did. Oh well...yet another reason why I love the vette...it is still a car that most anyone can afford.
I can't wait till my kids get old enough to ride in the vette...until then they love to sit in "daddy's pretty car" while I wash it or work on it.
The last thing I have really enjoyed is connecting with other vette owners. This place for example has become a true joy and a highlight of my day. So thanks to all you fellow vette brothers and sisters out there!

The C5 & C6 are truly remarkable cars . they can cruise all day at 100 + mph get 25 +mpg do the 1/4 mile in the high 12s low 13s and drive them 100s of miles and get out like you drove to the corner store . best bang for the buck anywhere and the best thing it's a Corvette the only American sports car
from people/friends that drive or ride in my C5. I have given rides and also allowed some people to drive my car. Mustang, Subaru owners,
people that have always wanted a Vette but dont for some reason or another. People that have had 60's-70's hotrods. Comments go from
the Corvette isnt what it used to be, or not knowing just what these cars can do, to .."my god", I cant believe it, I had no idea, good thing I didnt race one the other night, the ride is smooth, handles like on rails,
...on and on.. For me, after owning the car since the showroom floor, I sometimes forget just what I have. Maybe it just takes for someone to make me again realize the "package" that I drive, and it just brings me back to the first time I drove one. The general public really doesnt know about these cars. They are still remembering the Corvettes of yesteryear and the quality of those. I have found that most people that drive "other" performance cars are also clueless to the Corvettes
capability and ride. So the next time you are feeling like the car wasnt like you thought it was when you bought it....take someone for a ride, if you trust them, let them drive it. Sharing the Corvette experience that we are lucky to drive with others really makes you come back into focus with what we have.
Took my wife's car on a 500 mile road trip this weekend. For those who feel jaded driving their car's (some posts I've read) you need only to drive a Corolla for a while and then hop back in your Vette!! Just moving mine in the garage after returning home was like a gift after driving the Toyota all weekend.
It's ironic, but I bought my Z06 from a Subaru dealer. I called him because he had a "2002 Z06 409 HP 5 speed - Fast" to find out if he was smoking crack.
He told me they just shipped it up from their Palm Beach Florida location, but he "can't stand the car" and it looks like crap with all his "nice Subarus" on the lot.
They wanted $29k, and I showed up with $25k in an envelope. He says "Anything to get this CAR off my lot!".
All in all, some times ignorance is a GOOD thing.
My wife normally hates my cars , too, but like someone else said, she LOVES this car for some reason!!!!!

Dealer was obviously a retard....Subarus are even fugly to Subaru OWNERS.....Yeah my car looks like a brick but handles and performs quite oppositely.

LOL!!
I got a kick out of the write up though. I saved it. He went on to write how the car has "fancy shiny exhaust and custom leather seats", because the Z06 was embroidered in the head rest
It's what got me to buy mine.. My dad bought his and I had no choice after that...He and I both let anyone who is of a sane mind drive our cars... (well, he might not now, his has gone past that 500 RWHP mark, and I don't blame him completely..) Anyway, after being able to drive his to work, school, whatever I wanted as a 17-20 year old, It was time for my own
Yup, it's great fun to give an appreciative passenger a nice ride. It's fun to watch their whole body sink into the back of the seat and the grin just keeps getting bigger.
Common comments are about how they feel like they are in a fighter jet and how "smooth" it is. I think the smooth thing is partly about the ride but also about how smoothly it accelerates.
Haven't had anybody drive it on the street yet. A couple of parking lot excursions, but not street. My oldest son is wanting to drive it and I trust him. Plus he is finally hooked on manual trans cars so his shifting skills won't worry me. He's a Mustang man.....his goal now is the build his '68 just fast enough to beat me.
I gotta repeat one story though....
Driving in Portland here on Holgate, warm day, window open and a Mom and young son are walking on the sidewalk as I drive by. The boy stops his Mom and gawks as I drive by. I can hear him say slowly.....

I've had some rides in some FAST cars....but sadly never a vette. Only guy at my work that has a Vette has a heavily modded C5; but he's a supervisor and that would look a LITTLE lame if I asked him for a ride. But OOH how I would like that.... His car is sick....I wish I had a parts list/pics for ya'll.
Okay....we got anybody in Maryland that can give this poor guy a ride??!!
How many horsepower is your Subey? Turbo?
Yeah it's got a turbo. Factory. Car is certainly not stock but is NOWHERE near even a C5's performance level. If I had to guess I'd say about 240ish awhp. Low 13s in the quarter mile.
What seems to be the issue then? That's not only 'C5 performance' but if you really are running 13.x where x<6 you're probably beating a lot of the c5 guys (especially anyone who doesn't know how to drive or has an A4 with 2.73's)
Is this track times to guess HP or guessing with both???
Just sell the subie and buy a vette, what's the hard part here?
