Default Door Panel Skin coming loose.

Hi guys, I just joined up. I totaled my wive's Trans Am about three weeks ago and replaced it Christmas Eve with a 2004 White Coupe that only has 5500 miles.

The only problem I found while inspecting the car was a small leak, or more like a seapage somewhere on the left side of the rear end. I can't really tell where it came from exactly. I guess just keep an eye on it for right now. Any suggestion?

After my wife drove the car a couple of days she noticed the skin on the inside of the doorpanel was loose where the armrest area turns and starts up the doorpanel. I found the other side to be the same way. It looks like the glue behind it just turned loose. Is this a common problem, I didn't expect to find this on a garage queen? Should I try to find a shop to remove it and glue it back down, or just let it ride?

I know the warrenty is over, would GM even consider helping me since the car only has 5500 miles?

The differentials do leak very common, do not know about the panel. Never hurts to ask the dealer. The dealer here did a friends differential under good will, did not cost him anything.

Welcome

Yes, the door panel separation is a common issue.

Both are reasonably common problems.

There's a TSB out for the diff leak. They replace it with a new designed seal although some guys have experienced leaks even after the fix. Mine was done at 8k miles and has been good since. If you bought the car from a dealer I'd have a word and see if he'd fix it. Its a reasonably complex job and may cost a few $$ otherwise

The door panel is also common and you have 2 options. You can fit the arm rests. I got mine from Vette essentials for $140 ish.

That doesn't solve the problem just covers it up. I also saw a post a while ago where one member used a syringe with some glue and shot through the door material. A good press down and it looked good as new

The rearend leak may only be from the breather. I thought I had a leaky seal, but the dealer said it's common for the breather to vomit fluid under hard-driving conditions. They went ahead and attached a hose to the breather and ran it up inside the wheelwell to give the breather more capacity during rough driving. It hasn't "leaked" since!
