Headlight Gears..Bahhhhhhhh
Well after months of putting this issue off I had to finally take care of the gear issue as I started to hear the grinding gear noise.
Way to busy to put in the time and Labor so had to take her to Contes corvettes in Vineland NJ to have this issue solved.

Damn plastic gears
they'll be happy to have your business in a few more years when the new ones fail...again.

Replace the gear in both motors on our WS6 (Same as the Vette) with brass gears, Works great and was an easy fix, I think it was like 80 bucks for the 2 gears and epoxy and metal bars to reinforce the motor after it was opened and put back together.
Make sure if they're not familiar with the problem that they secure the case properly whether they fit nylon or brass gears. So many guys have resealed the motor only to find that it breaks open after a while
The brass gear kit from Rodney Dickman comes with a specially designed bracket to hold the case together.

did he mention anywhere that he bought brass replacement gears?
No he inferred he had stock gears fitted. Either they replaced the nylon gears in which case they broke open the motors and he needs to make sure they were reglued properly. I suspect Contes corvettes in Vineland NJ have never heard of Rodneys bracket?
Or he had a very large invoice for two replacement headlight motors

So much knowledge on this subject?
My op didnt say if they were replaced with brass or nylon !
They are replaced with Brass and CONTES is a very good shop so im sure they will make the required correct repairs and the work is under warranty so if they see me again ...good for me and bad for them.

Thats good news if they used brass. you might want to see if they secured the headlight case with the bracket. If not, keep an eye out for the adhesive giving way. A lot of members have had subsequent snags when the joints failed.

$33.00 each for the gear and 1 hour labor for each light approx.
That will depend on how long it will take , like I said thats an estimate on the time.
yeah that's what i gathered. which is why they'll be happy to see him again in a few years.
Now wait a minute guys, I thought if a repair shop did the fix, they replaced the entire motor. You think that there are shops out there doing the gear only fix?

That's at a Stealership. Some independent shops will replace the gears.
I would guess that it's at least 2 hours labor per side by the time you remove the motor, break the case, put it all back together and reinstall the motor. 4 hours labor at $75 min is $300 plus parts so
i suspect about $400 for the job.

Hell, the entire headlight motor doesn't cost that much!

yeah i'd rather do it myself for the cost of the brass gears!
