Default Replacing Hubs???

My car was having problems and I took it to the dealer to get checked out while i went to go visit family and friends in california. My dad just gave me a call and stated that they told him that 2 hubs needed to be replaced and the cheapest they could do it was around $1400.00 I was just wondering if this is good price for a dealer and what is a hub? thanks

a hub is what the wheel attaches to, it contains the wheel bearings. I had a front hub replaced at a dealer last summer for $390

First, do a search in the Tech section on Wheel Bearing Noise. The hubs are sealed units so they are not servicable. These also contain your wheel speed sensors. You can do a lot better by buying Timken Hub assemblies at your locat Autozone. I believe these are the same units being sold by GM as OEM and cost a fraction of the price GM is going to get for them. If you are at all mechancally inclined, you could do the work yourself. PM me with your e-mail address if you want the detailed instructions on how to change these out. I got them from another forum member. If you are inclined to have this work done professionally, shop around. I think you can do much better. Good luck with it.

The hub itself shouldn't be more than about $150-200.........and the labor is a piece of cake. Get them yourself and DIY.

I just talked to the guy at the dealer and he said both front hubs and belts need to be replaced and said just for parts not including labor is $419 a peice before tax.
What would happen when i was driving al the power to the drivers door would cut out and not come back on. and then on my display screen would say service tire monitoring system and my fuel and battery gauge would go all the way down and i have a full tank and the other 2 on the left went all the way up and would say reduced engine power and radio would turn off. He said 62 codes came up when he did dignostics for it which is insane. but if there is anyone in the San Antonio area that things they can get a better deal let me know.

Sounds like a connector in the door (accordian part there are two large connectors) - check it out

RUN YOUR OWN CODES and see for yourself. If you don't know how, search on DIC Codes. Ones beginning with a C are current and active problems. IF they are showing an H beside the code then that is a prior code no longer causing a problem.

Did the dealer promise to give you a big kiss after he bends you over?
