Sorry to misdirect. My poor attempt at humor meant to insinuate that if NZ hadn't any CarMax, perhaps they might have one at a nearby town! (groan)

http://www.carmax.com/, but it probably doesn't matter. Looks like CarMax just covers about half the United States. I thought it might have been more international than that. Maybe next year ...

There's a lot of owners of pristine 67's that would disagree with you.

Seems to be no real pattern to the prices anymore.

I think historically this has always been true. Corvettes are one of the few cars owners can do this with. The pool of dreamers to the purists looking at Corvettes is very deep. Good cars will always sell for more than any 'book value' because typical year, miles and condition guidelines don't fit well. Just my two cents.

I am looking at a 04 black MN6 with 7500 miles and the dealer has 31,900.00 on it. not bad for a imac. cond. car.

A dealer will offer the car first at the top of the market, then if that fails the price is set based on what they took it in for.

They may start at $30K but a few weeks later drop it to $26K especially if they only have $22K or 23K in it.

The front end of the "deal" which acquired the car determines how much they can and will sell the car for.

Numbers games always work for the dealer, regardless of what the numbers are. Someone trades in a nice car to a dealer for a car that they "JUST GOOTA HAVE" and they will get beat up on the trade deal every day.

Seems the comments reflect price = demand...

If no demand prices fall until the car sells. High demand = high prices.

Hows this going to pan out with the suggestion of a looming recession inthe US economy

It's a buyers market in a global economy. Best advice written was to research your purchase.

And.. to add to the comment about no less than 40K C6's here is one on Fleebay that looks pretty fair. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...190205074&rd=1

If you are looking for a C5. First take and put about 30K in your pocket. Money does talk, especially cash. Then go shopping. You proably won't spend the 30K but if you happen to run across a '03 Ann. Z06 with 10K on the speedo, Blk with Mod Red interior, it will come in handy. Thats what I'm looking for.

Geography definitly has the biggest impact on price. Any car, C5 or not, from the rust belt northern states will always sell lower than a florida car that has never seen salt or snow.

Also, I live in Eastern North Carolina which is very heavily military. There is no such thing as a good deal on ANYTHING around here, always some slick rick trying to screw a young Marine that has too much money and wants a "cool" car.

I searched for months and found my car on ebay in Florida. Flew down and drove it 12 hours home. Gas+my time was STILL cheaper then buying a car within 300+ miles of where I live.

Default Corvette Prices

O.K. guys, here is one you can use for an example. Christmas Eve in Atlanta I bought a 2004 White Coupe, glass top, black insides, all the buttons and whistles, heads-up, 12 cd player, has it all. The car is almost perfect in every way. It only had 5500 miles on it. They had been asking $33,900. I bought the car for $29,500. It was a great Christmas at our house. I don't know if this means prices are falling or not, you be the judge.

Buy salvage. It doesn't always mean frame or suspension damage. My car 01 a4 sport and performance coupe 47k miles with all current mods still under $20k invested never frame or suspension damage just a couple of body panels drive as new

Shop around for salvage cars take them to a body shop you can trust to check the repairs and previous extent of damage then save a butt load of money than can then be put into mods. See it easy
