it is connected... but i'm just wondering if it's the button or the harness or the fuse... typically what is it... and how can i determine what the problem is?
Hard to tell what it "typically is without some sort of survey. My assumption would be a bad switch. Disconnect the plug and do the paperclip procedure. That will confirm or eliminate a bad switch.
Shouldn't... It's doing the same thing that occurs when you push the release button. It's completing the circuit. I've done it on mine numerous times and have never blown a fuse. It'll scare you a little though because it sparks when it makes contact. Try it. It's the only way you're going to be able to troubleshoot the switch. That is, unless you want to spend the money on a replacement and hope that's it.
Had the same problem a year ago, mine was the switch.
Have to take the console apart to get to the switch.
I had power coming into the switch, but not exiting the
switch to the fuel door. Took about 20-30 minutes to change
out.

In my FRC it's in the trunk compartment and I have to pop open the trunk to get to it. It's located up high around the wheel well, and if I recall correctly, it's tucked behind a carpet panel. It's not easy to find if you're looking for it for the first time.
Just went out to my car to get something out of the trunk and looked for the latch-pull. On the driver's side of the FRC - right above the wheel well, there's a little black plastic trim piece/cover. My latch-pull handle was barely noticeable sitting outside of that trim. I checked to see how tight of a fit the trim was and it was fairly loose. I could see where the latch-pull could easily fall behind that trim piece. If you have an FRC and can't find your latch-pull, I'll be willing to bet it's behind that trim. If so, you can try prying the trim out a bit and getting it with your hand, or, get a metal clothes hanger or something to fish it out.
I just searhed this thread because my wifes door wouldnt open...
it turned out to be the switch...
I just popped the switch apart and bent the contact a little bit and now it works...
I guess from repeated use the contact gets bent away from the other piece that it makes contact with and needs to be "coaxed" a little to once again make contact...
