They need to step up to the plate and fix whatever damage they have caused - plain and simple. And then, DO NOT take the car back to them for anything else. Your friendship has been impacted anyway, nothing more to lose.
Don't despair - go talk to the owner of the shop. Tell him what your expectations are and then see how he reacts. If he refuses to step up to the plate, pull your car out of there, find another shop and get estimates for the repairs. Present the repair estimates - if he still refuses, walk out. Turn it over to your state's attorney general and begin the pursuit of legal actions. Don't take matters into your own hands. Document EVERYTHING! Good luck.
One last thing - contrary to what might be your impression - most everyone here dreamt of Corvette ownership, and made sacrifices to realize their dream. Naturally I don't pretend to have knowledge of anyone's financial situation (other than my own), but don't presume that most everyone isn't in the same boat as you. Personally I waited a very long time to be able to afford my dream. I didn't have anyone buy it for me - and I bought used too.
Exactly what he said and Good luck (dosen't pay to be a nice guy right now)
What's a States Attorney going to do? He'll probably tell you to go to small claims court. Seems that unless you have some proof he did something to your car, it's your word against his, especially since you took the car even after smelling something burning. If he hasn't offered to assist already, I doubt he'll just pony up.

I understand your sacrifices, your joy in the "new car" and your pain. Sit down with the manager, if he won't cover repairs, go to small claims court..Good luck..
I'm still trying to figure out how the soap solution got into anything that would cause electrical "sizzling"? I watched them tint my doors and they were soaked inside and out by the time they were done, but never had any problems? Just wonder if it was not something else they did?
