Just looking to vent
For me i have worked half my life to finally be able to Own a vette, i mean to some owning a vette is easy but to me it has been hard work and alot of financial juggling and even though my vette was used it was still a dream of mine that finally came true about a month ago.
Its not every day that i get to experience this kind of excitement and when i finally did get my car i had all these mods in my head and things i wanted to do with it and went to work on them. Here in town there is a shop that i use personally and professionally so i trust them with everything and i let them be the first people to touch my vette. It was scheduled to have all the tint pulled and replaced and then have the whole stereo system gutted and replaced with top notch parts and have a new set of rims and tires put on.
They have had the car about a week and a half and the first thing they did was start tinting....i came back in a week to see progress (hoping to see the rims and the tint redone and some stereo work being started) only to find that they retinted the side windows and didnt do the back ..that was upsetting and no rims and not even starting on stereo work. So i decided it was a nice day and i would take it for a joy ride. We go to the car and talking and i kept saying something is on fire around here and we kinda talked about it saying man sorry to whoevers house in on fire and continued to talk. I drove the car back to work and parked it ...3 hours later i get in it and that smoke smell is strong in my car....so i rode home with the window down trying to air it out and wake up the next morning to find it worse smelling. Come to find out it wasnt a house....it was my car
. Found out the all the spray they used soaked inside the door causing the contacts to sizzle and burn the wiring....so now my right side windows and locks doesnt work which will cost me a small fortune to fix and the smell of my new dream is now of burnt plastic and it doesnt seem to wanna come out. These people are my freinds and I told them about it and im not really getting a "man im really sorry" or "we will fix everything" or nothing but a wow that sucks...dont know how that happened cause we do this everyday type of thing. So now im sitting here and cant sleep cause im upset and wondering how what i worked so hard to get has now just went to Crap in a handbag type of thing.
Im sure it will get better but for now its very upsetting and has put a big kink in my plans.
Sorry for the long post but figured some of you all would understand ....not like my wife would understand im sure i would get " see i told you so...shouldnt of bought the vette"
make them pay for it. if they don't think they should have to pay anything or help out in someway, then they probably aren't to good of friends anyway.
good luck with your ride man. I know how you feel. My vette has been that way since I got it and im always on a tight budget.
I just got done doing the rear brakes and rotors and getting new tires and putting in a new battery all for Christmas. Then I drive the car today and take a look at the front rotors for some reason and one is rippled. time for new brakes and new rotors up front now
it never ends.
I think you need to consider after reading your post, if these guys were really your friends, they wouldn't be hanging you out to dry.
Make your complaint to them, in writing. Ask what they intend to do to fix this. "I don't know what happened" is easily answered with, "I do. YOU screwed up. Now fix it." If they don't, then seek legal action.
who hasn't experienced apprehension when we've turned over control of our vehicles to others? far too many times those feelings are well founded. I hope they step up and make right what they have done but don't be surprised if it turns into a legal battle.

Tell them just what you said above - and stress to them how the water treatment fried your wiring and you would like it brought back to the condition it was before they touched your vette.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

They need to step up to the plate and fix whatever damage they have caused - plain and simple. And then, DO NOT take the car back to them for anything else. Your friendship has been impacted anyway, nothing more to lose.
Don't despair - go talk to the owner of the shop. Tell him what your expectations are and then see how he reacts. If he refuses to step up to the plate, pull your car out of there, find another shop and get estimates for the repairs. Present the repair estimates - if he still refuses, walk out. Turn it over to your state's attorney general and begin the pursuit of legal actions. Don't take matters into your own hands. Document EVERYTHING! Good luck.
One last thing - contrary to what might be your impression - most everyone here dreamt of Corvette ownership, and made sacrifices to realize their dream. Naturally I don't pretend to have knowledge of anyone's financial situation (other than my own), but don't presume that most everyone isn't in the same boat as you. Personally I waited a very long time to be able to afford my dream. I didn't have anyone buy it for me - and I bought used too.

Also talk to your insurance company. Don't file a claim, just get their take. You may be able to leverage their assistance.
I'd like to be a weather man, only right about 50% of the time.
