im getting my windows tinted on my c5Z and they asked me if i have the big rear window?? are they talking about the hatchback window or what?? no clue.. All they said was big or small window they weren't sure about hatchback??? Also and opinions on how dark i should go??
go as dark as you want... I had 5% on several cars, including a few I regreted doing it to (hard to see backing up) check your local laws and do what you like. I have 35% all the way around on my current DD. Yes, you have the "big back window" other wise known as the hatchback. The little one would be the z06. Make sure htey've done a few C5's or C4's before you leave your car in their hands, tinting a corvette is not an easy job.
if u have a c5 z then that would mean u have the small window...if its not a z then you have a big window. unless you have an frc, in which case a small window as well. Also, if you DO have the big window, be sure that they do that window with ONE piece of film, NOT TWO!!!If they do it with two it will look like sh**. Lastly, go with 20% all around. Almost all states are 35% these days and most everyone I know including myself gets away with 20's
Just my opinion, but you don't need any darker than 35% all the way around. Of course some like it so dark that they can't see out of the car. This is mine (with the small window) Keep in mind that it is in direct sunlight in the pic. At night you can barely see in at all.

I'm 99% sure that they are talking about a removable top Coupe when the say big window. All C5 removable top Coupes have hatchbacks. No other C5 window is remotely close to as big as a removable top Coupe rear window.

How do they get the air out of the matrix area at the top of the coupes rear window. Sorry that doesnt read very well. There are the little black painted dots on the inside of the rear glass, how do they get the tint to stick with out it looking like sh*t? (No hijack intended.)

they can never get it perfect but when you go to a good shop they will have a pretty good finished product. Just gotta make sure your in the right place. Again, you cant expect that area to come out perfect

Mine was done with two pieces and I had to have him point out where he mated them. it does not matter if the tinter uses one piece or two for a coupe rear window.. as long as he knows what he is doing. keep that in mind. no one person.. even at shows, has ever commented on if the back tint is two seperate pieces.
sorry, i know this was usless to the poster, but anyone else reading might take something from this.
My Vette is getting tinted on the 21st. I'm going to go with 20% on the back and 35% on the sides-just like my dad's 98, at the same shop that did my dad's 98.
I can't wait for the SUV headlights to not be shining in my face at night. LOL

It is always better to use 1 sheet rather than 2.. All good window tinters will use 1 sheet for the rear. Maybe you can't see it, But the seam is there, No seam is the shiznits.
