Just in case someone is in need and want to replace it themselves. My 2001 right headlamp motor began making a terrible noise only when the headlamp goes down, it operated fine other than this incredibly nasty/embarrassing noise that lasted about 10 seconds. I searched and searched and found a post to replce it myself.
In short, there is a plastic flywheel in the motor that had worn teeth. It took about 2 hours to replace and it is a very tight spot to work in, if you really want to do it with less ease then remove the entire headlamp and you could replace it in 15 minutes, having a retractbale magnet wand for picking up fallen nuts and bolts is a must. Also you will notice in the article that newer C5 models have the chamber glued in place, be carfel and just pry it with a screwdriver easily. Good luck.
