Hose question
What is the rubber hose that "plugs" into the air filter housing, where does it plug into after leaving the filter housing, and what does it do?

I'm guessing that you've observed the hose for the AIR pump. It collects clean air from the filter box, goes thru an electric air pump, then gets sent to both exhaust manifolds via rubber and metal hoses as well as one-way valves near the manifolds. Air is injected into the cats this way when they're cold. I guess it's supposed to make the cats live longer and work more efficiently until they fully heat up.
