I have the 6000K low and high beams and love them. And if you drive in the country you will need the high beam also. Just adding that because some say you only need the low beam. My only concern is that switching from one beam to the other is the warm up time. The high can be very dim before before warm up.

Which is why you need to do the all lights on mod. If I changed my high beams to HID's, I wouldn't hesitate to do that mod. Since I didn't change my stock high beams, I'll hold off.

If you wire the setup correctly, you won't have any heat issues. I used a kit that I got elsewhere, and although I didn't have any heat issues, I did experience the necessity to turn the stalk twice before the lights would raise (they would come on, just not come up the first time). I did an in depth thread where I not only explained the HID setup, but also the installation of a powered harness which eliminated the one issue that I was having. You can read all about it here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1906626

Would it be better to replace the whole driving light with an aftermarket bulb and lense, or put in DJ's low beam kit?
I would do DJ's low beam kit only. How often do you use your high beams for a significant amount of time? If you're like normal folks, that answer is very rare. Plus, the low beams will put out so much light that you will probably never use the high beams. That my opinion.

A few months ago I purchased the 6000K low beam kit from DJ. Very happy with them and IMHO worth every penny. Recently I started having the door opening problem. Sometimes have to turn off then on again for doors to open. I sent him an e-mail a few weeks ago but haven't haeard back. On another forum, some said to wait about 15 seconds after engine start to turn on headlights. Sometimes works and soetimes doesn't. Does anyone have an answer? I can be reached backchannel at <mesly@bellsouth.net> Thanks in advance.

Mesly,

The hid lights have nothng to do with your lights not poping up. that would be the headlamp motors that commonly fail on our cars...

Actually, the HID's have everything to do with his lights not popping up on the first try. The stock harness for some reason is either not of a large enough gauge or needs to be powered. I proved this to myself upon installing a separate harness for my HID's. As long as the car is running, everything works exactly as it should. If I turn the engine off and then turn off my lights, they go off but do not go down. That's because the harness is not being powered. I did a extensive thread here on the entire process and subject: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1906626

This will solve your headlight not popping up the first time problem. The thread even includes a video.
