Xmuni,
you can find the newer body style 911's for cheaper than the old used. 95'-98' hold there value better. they were the last of the aircooled 911's. He probably did pay $53,000.

Re: 96 911, 02 ZO6? (newme)
My neighbor bought a 2001 996 about 6 months before I picked up my 2002 ZO6, while the fit and finish of the Porche is slightly superior to the Z06 there is absolutely no comparison when it comes to vehicle dynamics. As far as squeaks and rattles the Z06 is tight and rattle free. The only negative that I can even think of is tire noise, the Z06 is a bit excessive in that department.
The neighbor is a past Pacific Coast Formula Ford champion so I assume he can drive. We raced on a 360 degree on-ramp leading to a local freeway and I was able to get up next to him on the inside of the ramp and he was pushing as hard as he could ( he confirmed this later). Now for the kicker, I was not in my Z06 I was in my 2001 Crew Cab non-dually F-250 Diesel! Buy the Z06, you will not be sorry, it is a great car at any price.

The only thing that rattles in my ZO6 is my nerves. This thing is one wild ride from %&$#. Every time I drive it, I can only say 1 word...WOW :U

Having owned three Porsches, 944 turbo, 87 928 and a 95 911 cabriolet, I can honestly encourage you to buy the vette. The vette is not as refined and doesn't have the status, but it is a better engineered car. I am a perfectionist and trying to keep all the things working on a Porsche is a money draining experience to the tenth degree. If you are a mechanic then buy the Porsche. If you want complete reliability buy an NSX.
