could the halltech install be causing this issue? maybe something is loose? going to check the clamps to see if anything is loose? the car is stock except for the halltech intake.

Before you even said something about the halltech install, I was going to say, you just got through installing a new intake didn't ya. Over a yr ago I picked up my car with this problem and 02-04 Z06's get it a lot............. anywho our MAS' don't have a screen.......... I replaced mine with a newer model that is screened once again and it fixed the problem......... what is happening.......... air is getting past the MAS un-metered causing the car to run lean. YES, a custom tune could fix it....... but why "trick" the computer when you can just replace the MAS

The MAF screen on the 01 cars is used to minimze air turbulence. The 02-04 cars, which don't the screen have more of this turbulence with conical-type filters, and as such run a bit lean. That's the problem you're having. A custom tune will not "trick" the computer - it will calibrate your timing and fuel trims to get you back in line with where the computer needs to be - and you'll pick up around 15hp in the process.

You'll be fine - I drove around for about a month with the same code before I got mine tuned - I just didn't hammer it too hard.

Yes - if you added a Haltech it most certainly could be the cause.

I had a Halltech and had to return it for exact same reason- Jim is extremely professional and will work with you. However- I was not about to spend $500 for a dyno tune to fix a lean code caused by an air filter.

Many different brands of aftermarket air intakes will throw occasions P0171 and P0174. The usual circumstance is during off-throttle action, like coasting down a hill to a traffic light with your right foot off the throttle. No harm done. My 2002 with CAI did that occasionally. Cleared the code and weeks or months later it occasionally recurred. That car remains trouble-free after 350 passes and now in the hands of its third owner.

As said above, clear the codes. Recheck the clamps on the CAI. Then go for a test ride and show the car some wide-open throttle. Then pull over and recheck for codes. I suspect you won't find P0171 and P0174. If that's correct. You're fine. If you do get a code, recheck the connections. It sometimes takes repeated tightening to get them leak-free.
