I drilled them out with an angle headed drill attachment to my Dremel.

I haven't done this mod myself, but I have read a number of threads where others have done it. It seems the that the bracket is riveted together and it requires some tactical drilling and lot's of cussing. If you can't get at it, then your not cussing right.

yes thats exactly what was done. We drilled holes into the bracket and into side of the cage and remounted back in upside down. You will need to then mount the radio cage to the bracket. You wont be able to use any kind of bolt with a very large head on it or you wont be able to slide the head unit into the mounting bracket. We found out the hard way

I cant take all the credit. I had Pentavolvo and DPG helping me as well since they were the install experts.
But I was the one who got tired of drilling and went to the hardware store for the bug guns

This is the easiest way to do it

You can get lots of exact instructions if you go to: "Corvette General" under the "Forums" tab and then go to Audio/Electronics. Then do a search for double din. The members over there are incredibly helpful and knowledgable. That's how many of us did the mod including me.

here was the original write up by Pentavolvo the one who needs the credit. I was there to help but Greg is the master at doing these installs.

ok a few things guys as far as putting the bracket back in to support it its not a must but its recommended. As far as mounting the unit and I didnt do this with dennis' car get some l brackets or osme metal u can bend. Slot one side so you can adjust em and put em in the din holes in the side of the radio and bolt her up to the metal frame/dash how the stock one was. This should make it alot easir. Some guy did it that way I dont remeber who put genera/audio has lots of good info

I just sent my console to the C5 KIDD, so now I'm patiently waiting for it's return before I start cutting. Maybe I'm being overly cautious, but I wanted to make sure it fits with the new console.
