If you want to spend the time and put forth the effort, you can make polished aluminum look almost like chrome. 
From a distance, I've mistaken many a C5 polished wheel for chrome.

My polished wheels look great after a thorough polishing/cleaning, but I think he meant the non-polished wheels.

I had a set of highly polished wheels on another car, What a mistake that was, They look great, But the upkeep use unreal.

It's just that I've never seen the flat matte finish aluminum wheels. I thought they were all polished. Just some more than others.

Someone has probably done it. But to go to all that effort, might just be easier to buy a set of the high polished wheels.
