I just picked up my first vette, a red 2004 Z06 with 34000 km on it. My dad got tired of me taking his 2003 Z06 road racing so I was forced to go get my own. Since it's winter here in Alberta, the car will be sitting on the lift at the office for the next few months presenting the perfect opportunity to throw a few mods on it before it hits the streets. First up, the shifter.
I dislike the feel of the stock shifter and was curious about after market alternatives. The car will mainly be used for road racing and auto cross but will also be my daily driver over summer. My dad has the Hurst shifter on his car, and while it takes alot of effort to shift, I love how tight it feels.
Any recommendations for shifters that I should look at?
As the second owner of my 01 Z06, I replaced the B & M Ripper with the C6 shifter kit purchased through Gene Culley @gculley@gmpartshouse.com. The install was easy and well worth the price. The shifter made a noticeable difference. I do not track the car so depending on your driving intentions, other members may have more advice on other shifters.
I have used the Kirban for several years and it is one of the best. You can not miss third with this set up I really liked it except for the effort required to shift. This is the problem with all the short throw shifters to much effort. I switched to the 08 Z06 shifter last week. Much easier to shift and very smooth, not as precise, throws are a little longer but I am going to drive it awhile. I think I am going to like this one.
I just got the Hurst shifter a couple weeks ago and love it! It comes with 2 sets of extra springs and has an adjustment for the side-to-side tension so that you can fine tune it to your liking
I haven't tried a Kirban or C6 shifter yet. I've driven a C4 and a C5 with the B&M Ripper, I liked the feel of the Hurst better...

I got hold of a free Hurst shifter and will be putting that in ASAP.
I have the newer B&M short throw ****er with th isolated shaft. I love it!!! I actually never felt the stok shifter on my Z, my little bro installed the short shifter while I was in Iraq!! He said it was like night and day difference. I would never go back to stock, I love my B&M!!! Its really great for a DD.
