Hi R Devil -

The people in the persons locale who will invite them to a local cruise night, or mod party, or gathering at a eatery etc.

The only loser is the person providing the ficticious info (or none at all).

a) it doesn't matter. Mainly, people here want to know what year, and tranny type your C5 is. It helps tailor answers to questions asked.

b) it's better to force the filling out of the profile for newbs (geographical info and age - mostly). If you catch them in a lie later-on... even more reason to send them to Banned Camp.

unless you are selling something why is that info even needed? It doesn't make a post any more or less creditable by knowing the location of the poster...

and as a couple of other members already said, who is going to confirm its even accurate in the first place.

I agree with you, and on the forum that I co-administer, we have some of those profile fields as mandatory.

In theory that is all goodness, but in practice you get an interesting array of locations etc.

I always try to pm a member that I can tell lives near me - and by the same token I always like to hear from members who notice that they live near me when they see my profile information.

best regards -

Some members may as well not fill them out with the lack of info they provide.

This is very true. In order to provide help for someone, sometimes the problem's answer is year(s) specific. No one should have to answer a question 5 different ways when trying to help someone out. Thus, detailed info about the car should be mandatory if you're going to post a question. As for city and state, sometimes that info is also helpful in that some good members here volunteer their services for free to help out someone who is close to them. There also may be a situation where services are offered by an establishment in a poster's area that may be able to solve a poster's issues. Some members won't bother to assist someone who doesn't bother to fill out their profile and I can understand why. So in fact, any or all of the requested profile information can be used to help someone out.

So many folks are worried about others finding out who they are or where they live when in fact, the moment you make one post anywhere on the Internet, you can be tracked down to your front door with relative ease. I won't put you to sleep with the details here, PM me if you want to know how.

This is true, so what is the big deal if someone doesn't fill out their profile to suit everyone else? It is mainly for general info. and if someone doesn't want their exact city or state, why is it a big deal for others? If push comes to shove, we can find out exactly where their computer is hooked up. If someone needs help, I am sure they will post where they are located or fill out their profile more accurately then. Until then seems like a non issue to me. I am sure the mods have more important things to keep an eye on. Just my .04 cents (I posted twice here).

Is the main gripe here about filling out your profile for the sake of getting help or selling stuff? They are two different issues. One does require some information. The other is irrelevant because none of the information can be verified. So I guess it depends on what the OP's gripe concerns.

Except for your name, the basic profile questions seem rather harmless. I could learn alot more about you with a photo of your car license plate.
So unless you are really paranoid about it fill in the blanks a little.
