Default Help..! Traction Control!

I was driving this morning on the highway, going straight on an on-ramp and all of a sudden got "Traction Control Active" message and the power was shutting off. It did it twice this morning, but on the way home tonight everything was as normal.

I pulled the codes and the only thing I think might be related was C1255H. The only thing I have been able to find is that it might happen if the diameter is not 1/2" or 1" different on the rear and front tires/wheels.

I have a '98 with 245/40/18 on front and 275/30/19 rear. I also had little bit of low tire pressure on left rear.

Could the tire sizes I have affect like this? Or would it maybe be something else? I bought the wheels and tires about 6-7 months ago, and I am wondering how could it just now affect the traction control...

I need your guys help! I am not looking forward to driving to work every morning on the side of the highway idling. Or spending a fortune trying to figure out what is wrong..!!

Thanks in advance,

Suvi

Hey, Suvi, repost this message over in the Tech section. Folks there more attuned to these things.

Dunno about the '98 TC system, but in my '02, I see an occasional "Traction Control Warming Up" message that lasts for a few seconds, then goes away. I think that the system is recalibrating itself. No related power loss, however.

A 245-40x18 is 25.72" in diameter and the 275-30x19 is 25.50" in diameter.

In other words, your back tires are less tall than the fronts, so you will have TC and probably ABS issues with this set up. I don't know what width wheels you're running, but you need to run a taller tire in the back than the front. The front is pretty tall, and a lower aspect ratio tire will help that.

Take a look at the link I provided and you'll see what I mean. Experiment with different sizes , but you need a tire that is about a 1/2" taller in back than the front. If you look at the revolutions per mile, they are too close together. The system sees the backs spinning faster than the fronts, and it engaged the TC.

A 275/30/19 tire is only ~25.5" tall. The stock rear tire is ~26.5" tall. A 275/35/19 tire would be stock height.

The AH & traction control won't function properly unless the rear tires are ~1" taller than the front tires.

275/30/19 makes for a good front tire...Too short for the rear.

Thank you, all!

I am glad to hear it is "an easy" fix, I was afraid it would be something more difficult

In other words... another lesson learned: Do not trust a vendor's advice without research!!! This vendor has been brought up with same customer service issues before here in the forum.

I appreciate all the info I once again got from you guys!
